Root Step by Step Rooting Instructions: for Huawei Ascend

Mmk, I've gotten rid of the couple of programs that I really don't need. Where do I go from here? I'm kinda lost.

I know I wanna try to get into customizing the UI of my phone, like they're doing here;
http://androidforums.com/android-themes/4425-post-your-android-desktop-70.html#post2096372

And I wanna do anything I can to get it running smoother, and with less lag. I've played with my friends Droid X and it runs smooth as all get out, yet any live wallpaper I try on my Ascend has hugely noticeable lag. Any recommendations on either front?

Have you installed a new launcher yet? That helps and also clearing your cache helps bigtime.

I recommend LauncherPro for your Launcher and Cache Mate for clearing your cache.

FYI...the Ascend will never have the performance your friend's Droid X does. In this instance (compared to other droids) you really do get more than what you paid for, but it's not going to perform like the more elite smart phones.

Maybe when the Froyo comes out it will improve on the lag but for now it is what it is.

As for live wallpaper it is going to slow your phone down so it just depends on what is more important to you...live wallpaper or performance.

Personally I sacrifice a bit of performance for my live aquarium wallpaper cause the little fishies give me pleasure. ::P

You can see how I just downloaded some stuff at the top and also in one of them my battery was about shot! LOL

Here I am using LauncherPro Plus and the background is Aquarium Donation Live Wallpaper.

This was fun! :D

I used the 'Screenshot' app from the market to take the pics. I set it to take them when I shake the camera with a 5 second delay.

Then to view them you just go into File Manager, SD card and find Screenshots and there they are.

After that you transfer them to your computer and Voila! Your Desktop!!! :D

Hi! Be sure to go to >menu >settings>applications >check 'unknown sources'

Also, if you have further probs downloading it with your stock browser, try the dolphin mini browser.

Hi and welcome! Yes that's the correct way to do it. Please read the post just above this one to further help you.

Also, with Titanium Backup...back up all your apps and system just as soon as you get rooted BEFORE you backup and uninstall anything. If you have any doubts...just freeze the app instead of uninstalling. Much easier to restore this way.

Ok a little confused still. when i go to that site on the phone i get taken to another site that describes the app. do i have to register there also to access the app?

Okay, it's a shame I didn't stumble upon this thread before rooting my Huawei Ascend from Metro. Unfortunately, i deleted things with Google in it, and now i can't download from the Market. I also deleted titanium back up after rooting. Im guessing there is absolutely no way possible in which i can get my google stuff back? oreven reset my phone?

@jazziete

yes, I had already check that so I can download applications outside the market but I still keep getting that message.

can you please help me more? i really need to do this rooting thing. :(

thank you

Okay...first you need to go to the forum at xda and register.

Then make sure the USB debugging is enabled on your phone and that you have the unknown sources checked.

Then go to the market and download the free: Dolphin Mini Browser

Then go back to the link provided in the top post of this thread and download the file.

It should work.

Then open up File Manager and click on the top right icon (SD card) and you will find it in there.

Then proceed to unroot.

See if this helps you.

I think that there is a recovery image that has just come out for the MetroPCS Ascend but I don't have the link and not sure I am correct.

Can you get to your SD Card to see if the files you uninstalled are still there? Did you back them up first? See if they are there and then come back. In the meanwhile I hope that someone else with Metro will show up who can give you some better information.

I'll try to find the link for the recovery if it is here.

akent47 ....try this:

Try going to setting/applications and find the market app. Clear data and cache. reboot and see if market works.

If it does download Titanium Backup again and then read the first post here about how to restore them. There is a link there which is a guide to backup and restore with Titanium.

See if that can help you.

I can't find the link to the MetroPCS recovery. Like I said I'm not sure it even exists yet.

Jazz remember NY11275 had the links for the system apps?

Thats because you deleted Google Talk, didn't you. The Market needs Google Talk, thats why you can't download anything

Jazz I have told akent why Market is failing. I believe NY 11275 has the link to Google Talk. This is turning out to be a colaborative project. I know how to solve Akents problem. Akent hold on well get your market working again

@jazziete

Hello Jazziete, thank you very much. Once I downloaded the Dolphin mini browser then everything worked.

I have another question because I am stuck

I downloaded the titanium back up and I am reading the moderator article (the one that is at the beginning of this thread) and it is my understanding that he is recommending (the moderator) for us to download the titanium back up which i did and then what?????

1. I rooted the phone
2. I downloaded Titatnium back up
3. In titanium back up there are three tabs (Overview, BAckup /restore, and schedules) I went to back up /restore and backed up everything

AND NOW WHERE SHOULD I GO OR DO?:(

Sweet!! it worked!! that was pretty easy for being the first time rooting the phone! how awsome!! thanks guys for all the help!!

That's great Scorpion! Now you can simply 'freeze' the apps you don't want. For now don't uninstall them. They are easier to 'defrost'.

Look at the lists on the second and third posts in this thread to see what you can and cannot delete. (freeze)

Go back up to the first post and begin following the steps again after Titanium.

Let me know how it's all going!

Cheers!!! :)

PS...You might want to take a look at the 'Favorite Apps for Huawei Users' thread. It lists some of the apps we all like the most.

I'm so glad it worked for you! Stick around and share your phone experiences if you have some extra time! We have a pretty active forum here (even if it is small). LOL

Jazziette can you ask NY11275 for the link to the Google Talk app?

I wanna know is it safe to uninstall Easy Wifi? and Metrobackup and also Is there a free SetCPU?

There is no free SetCPU but you may find the .apk on the Internet for free. Try a search for setcpu.apk and you might find it for free.
