Still Confident Bravo is coming to Verizon

I've been following this guys twitter posts. (he did say nexus one was coming to verizon)

His latest post: "HTC Passion to VZW in next few weeks; N1 by late Spring."

Chad Neukirch (chneukirch) on Twitter

Interesting. that would mean a sense toting passion very soon, and a vanilla android nexus in spring.
funny he says "late spring". I've read spring/early spring/now late spring. At CES, they said as soon as they can integrate verizon into their store.

I'd be ecstatic if this were true, but he's full of crap. He says the Passion will be exactly the same as the N1, just running Sense.

Well, why the hell would Verizon release a more attractive version of the N1 3 months before they carry the vanilla N1?

maybe because Verizon wont be selling the phone, as much as Google will.

May be one will be sold by Google and the HTC passion by verizon. It may also look different like the leaked bravo and have sense UI. I don't know but I am super confused and don't like it. :D

Can we please get some solid info on the bravo/passion? I got til next Saturday to either keep my eris or return it. I need to know what to do.

Not to try to influence you, but i returned my droid to wait for HTC's superphone. I don't think i could handle using the eris with this thing out. Just know that after 30 days, you are stuck with it and the contract.

Maybe this is old news but on Jan 2nd this info was posted.

We can probably look forward to a launch of their alleged CDMA version of the Nexus One called HTC Passion.

Hopefully this "launch" is not the Late Spring we have all heard...rather the January announcement we are all hoping for.

....unless you bought it within the holiday period, right? i bought mine on nov 15th, so i believe i have until jan 13th to return the phone/cancel the contract without paying the ETF.

I upgraded my phone on December 23. So, I have til January 23 to return it.

I hope we hear something by Friday from HTC.

Here is a very interesting quote from Engadget regarding AT&T

We're at the AT&T presser here at CES, but it looks like we know what to expect: the carrier just announced that it's launching five new Android devices in the first half of 2010, including devices from Motorola, Dell, and HTC. The Moto device is described as having a "unique form factor," and running Blur, so we're guessing that's the Backflip, and Dell just announced that's it's bringing the Mini 3 to the US, so that's that. That leaves three devices for HTC, and our guess is at least one device with a keyboard and one without -- AT&T says they'll have an "exclusive" device, but that could mean a familiar phone with a new name and a tweaked case. We'll see -- and damn, things just got a lot more interesting in the Android game this week, don't you think?

Is it possible that the Bravo/Incredible is coming to AT&T as one of their unspecified exclusive device? Possible.

@clokwork bite your tounge the bravo/incredible needs to come to verizon since i dont get at&t where i live or t mobile just sprint(barely) and verizon

Hey Shawn, if you look on Engadget, it's official now that the HTC HD2 is coming to T-Mobile. OK...so think about this... If the HD2 is now coming to T-Mobile and so is the Nexus One (though it IS coming to Verizon later) wouldn't it make sense that HTC needs a powerhouse on Verizon? It seems as though there is a spot that is empty with HTC on Verizon currently. There needs to be an INCREDIBLE phone to fill that spot, since Verizon won't be getting the HD2 and the Nexus One, in my opinion, isn't even nearly as sexy as the HD2. So...I think there will be some news soon that will show that Verizon is getting something VERY sexy and exclusive. That's just my take, but that's what I'm seriously thinking is the case now.

I agree. Especially since the Nexus one wont be sold by Verizon. It will be compatible with Verizon's network, but sold by google. With google selling the phone, one will have to get a single line plan. Updates will not be included for existing customers. At least thats what they are doing with Tmo.

So as of now, Moto has the Droid. Samsung has the Omnia II. HTC's best phone on verizon is the Droid Eris (one could say the Imagio, but i dont think people are fond of that device). I think there is room left for a big sexy 3.7 inch snapdragon phone lol. (but i love to dream) :D

Nigelahmad are you talking dirty to us? I think I likey

Long time reader obssesed with this Passion stuff as well. Just a couple of thoughts. Motorola did not announce the Calgary /Devour at their CES event last night although photos of it have been show verizon branded on the web now for a week. Is it possible that Verizon will announce this low level motorola keyobard model along side the HTC Passion/Bravo at a press conference soon?

This would be very similar to how they announced the Droid and Eris with the droid getting the press during lead up and the Eris hardly getting any attention at all. Just hoping here im haning on until mid Jan then getting a droid.

Also why would verizon announce anything before the holiday return period of Jan 13 and risk a bunch of returns?

I agree, I don't expect Verizon to announce anything until the end of January, so I will probably hold off till then.

Now with the HTC HD2 coming to Tmobile sometime in March (hopefully)...I'm curious what is going to happen with carriers like Sprint and Verizon...they seem to be getting the shaft.

Also, I tried changing the name "Bravo" to some of the other names in the 2.1 Rom leak. Interestingly, there is nothing on Passion, PassionC or Incredible, but "Supersonic" brings up a device with what appears to be similar specs to the Bravo. (I say appears because I'm not quite sure that I am interpreting the information correctly).

Finally, FYI, "Dragon" brings up something that looks to be nothing like Bravo.

I'm not sure what any of this means, but hopefully there will be some solid information soon!

I am bummed. Verizon wireless announces the "new" palm Pri...yippee.....WHO CARES.. We want the HTC Passion. Where is that announcement. It seems clear that Verizon is resting on the "network" and they do not care if they offer superior phones. The Droid is the only viable up to date Android phone they have...and it appears that will not change until NExus One hits Verizon. BUT they will not sell the Nexus ONe in there stores...I am praying that they make an annoucement soon. This is getting too old.
C'mon Verizon get with today's technology!

Since you found out it's legit I did some looking of my own.
Perhaps more interesting to compare to is this one I just found:
http://www.htcmms.com.tw/Android/Common/NexusOne/ua-profile.xml
vs.
http://www.htcmms.com.tw/Android/Common/Bravo/ua-profile.xml

The file appears to contain space delimited values. Many of them are values like "yes" or "no" and certain standards. What would be great to know is what questions those values are answering. In other words, what are the columns that correspond to those values.

Some difference I found between the Bravo and NexusOne in the files are:

N1: PhoneKeyboard
Bravo: No
- some sort of interface spec maybe

N1: phone88
Bravo: Bravo
- phone codenames?

N1: base64 4096 No
Bravo: base64 4096 Yes
- no sure, but something Bravo supports that N1 doesn't

Bravo: video/H264 video/H263
N1: nothing
- Bravo supports these high def formats, N1 does not!

Bravo: audio/wma video/wmv audio/vnd.oma.drm.content audio/aac+
N1: nothing
- Bravo supports various audio and video files, N1 does not. including some drm and aac codec which are used by music content providers (think back to the leaked pics of Bravo with cover flow!)

Looks like Bravo DOES :)

p.s. actually, to see the fields that correspond to the data values in the xml just "view source" from your browser when viewing the files.

I see that, good find. If you look at the information in these files line-by-line, some entries have URL's. It looks like if you copy the URL and paste it into your browser, it brings up another page that looks similar, but describes what those values are. Programing was something I never got the hang of, so I'm still unsure as to what these mean, but maybe you can give some insight?

Also, what do you make of the fact that Bravo, Nexus One, and Supersonic all list GPRS as a value- does that indicate that none of these files is for a CDMA device (my limited understanding is that GPRS is a 2.5G GSM technology)?

Yeah, I was also able to download a version of the file that had descriptions of the values. Too bad this forum doesn't allow file upload but there's not much more information in there.

Regarding GPRS, my limited understanding is also that it's a GSM technology. I wanted to look at spec files for Verizon HTC phones to see what they said instead but strangely I couldn't find profiles for any of the names of phones that are on Verizon (Ozone, Eris/Desire, Touch Pro 2/Touch Diamond). Looks like that site may only have Euro or Tiwan phones. I wonder if there's a US versions of htcmms.com.tw. The info in these profiles sheds light on some specs and capabilities of the Bravo but not on it's release on Verizon.
