Still worth it?

Hey guys ,

Im hoping to get the desire sometime this/next(may) month but was wondering if you think its still worth it. It'll be on a two year contract with 3 on the one deal (which is more or less unlimited everything to me).

if you want a desire go for the new S but personally I'd look at the Motorola Atrix or Samsung Galaxy S2.

If you want an HTC I would wait for the Sensation, think release date is June sometime but sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)

Yeah I've been looking around for some better phones and don't really like the galaxy because of how similar it is to the iphone with its looks. Haven't heard of the other so I'll have a look. I personally prefer the rubber feeling of the desire but that doesn't play a huge part in it.

Specs wise the desire is better than the wildfire, the wildfire is still a capable phone. It comes down to preferences at the end of the day do you want or need the higher specs/price or will the wildfire do all you need.

As regards to the first question i would get the desire over the desire s or any of the s versions, as they are locked down & not rootable at the moment.
My advice would be to get one of the newer dual core phones if you can wait.

Its a great phone can't go wrong. Far better than the wildfire better battery than the HD and better build quality than the samsungs

The Galaxy S2 is a very impressive piece of kit. I wouldn't write it off just because of iPhone similarities but that's up to you.

On the other hand, you pay premium prices for the new phones and the recent price drops on the Desire make it worth it. It's still a great phone.

Most of us the Desire owners would keep their phones.
However, if I was a new buyer, I would look for more recent phones - Incredible S, Desire S, Arc, Optimus 2X, etc.

Yeah agree. I feel robbed having the choice of 2 similar phones on contract, same price, one a year old. I always try to get the latest.

But I wouldn't swap my one year old for anything currently available

The only problem with the desire s & all the other htc models with the s suffix is they are having severe problems trying to get root.
I think with you being like me a flash maniac (lol) then you would probably go for the original.

Although I.like HTC, I'm definitely open to looking at other manufacturers.

But yes must

1) be rootable
2) have a good dev community

So I'd wait a couple of months now.

Luckily o2 were slow to release the desire so this was already in place by then

There are a few others i would consider too, i would also research the phones & compare them like i did when i picked the desire.

im not gonna bother arguing the cases for the other new phones all I would say is if your not going to root it and just leave it stock (that doesnt include launchers) and you like the desire, then best bet to go with the Desire S..

it is EVERYTHING the older desire is, BUT with larger internal memory so unless you NEED root access you wont need to worry bout rooting for memory..

I mean if I had to choose now its what I would do..

Nah. I'd root, regardless of internal memory. Undervolting and that bit more control are a must for me.

I'd still stick with HTC. If I was buying now it would be the HTC Sensation or maybe Google's Nexus S. However, with the Desire being $0 (in a 3 year contract) and such a huge ROM selection I'd still say it can hold its own. Personally I'd stay away from Moto and Sam, regardless of the hardware spec.

oh I'd root too...BUT I assume everyone buying a new android phone WONT root....in that case, if the original OP is after a desire, the best course of action IS the desire S due to the internal memory sorted without the need for root..
