Root Stock bootloader/recovery with root?

I want to flash my evo over to Boost Mobile.
From what I understand I have to be root to do this, however, the instructional video I am following wants me to flash back to stock.
Is there a way to have stock recovery AND root?
Could some one point me to the right RUU download or maybe even help me flash to Boost?

Android 2.2

this is the stock rom with stock recovery:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VSFLE9CD for gingerbread. you will not have access to a custom recovery if you use this.

Can I keep root with this? I am new to this forum and I've only had the EVO for a couple of weeks. I had a Samsung Intercept which I had hours of flashy fun with (so I'm not a total noob.) The only rooting method I'm familiar with is the "rooting for dummies" thread which flashes Clockwork.

yes you will still have s-off. you just will not have any recovery once flashed to boost. the ruu gives you a stock recovery which you will not have any access to.

Thanks again. Just to make sure, do I flash this as .zip from recovery? Do i need to wipe anything first?

no what you need to do is
1.download it to the computer
2.rename the file by deleting everything but the PC36IMG file.
3.transfer the file to the sd card
4.power off then press and hold power+vol down
5.it should scan for your file select yes to update.

reboot and now you have stock gingerbread with a stock recovery.
