Help Stock Mobile Hotspot

I just downgraded back to the C firmware and now I have access to the stock mobile hotspot app even though I have the $55 plan. Is this supposed to happen?

Yup. New firmware blocked it, but works fine with apps on the market that requires root

No.
It works mostly with other phones, iPods, and gaming systems fine..with a PC, you need to switch your user agent.

If one uses PdaNet's mask internet usage feature, is it absolutely necessary to switch the user agent or can one still use IE, FX, or Chrome while masked without using an agent?

I still use a user agent with pda's hotspot but I'm sure it's not necessary.

I forgot to ask, is it safe to use the stock mobile hotspot for usb tethering or should I use another app? Since my internet is down... I've been using the stock usb tethering with the googlebot UA in Chrome and it's working great.
