Root Stock Music Player

This may be a silly question, so heres an example of my problem.

Playing music, you download an .mp3 with with your browser that places it in say, BoatDownload folder. You move that mp3 to /Music/ but the music player thinks its in BoatDownload still so it is unable to play.

How can u force it to rescan without rebooting?

I didn't know that MP3s had to be in the music folder for them to play. I put them there for organizational purposes, but isn't the whole idea of "Scanning for music" such that you can put it anywhere, and it will still find it?

You learn something new everyday.

As for the forced scan, I dunno...I've added songs to the SD card off a PC, and by the time I disconnected, they showed up. Perhaps an unmount/mount cycle on the SD card by making it a drive on a PC will do it.

Edit:

I suppose you could do the same thing through the storage options (unmount/mount)...but again, I don't know if it will work for you. Seems like it should though...

I dont have any issues with songs being recognized in other folders, even after being moved to the music folder. Maybe a restart is just required, I'm no help at all.

After re-reading the OP, I think I misunderstood. I am guessing that he can play MP3 even in the Boat Browser D/L folder. But after moving the file, if the player still thinks it's in Boat/DL folder (when it isn't), I can see why it won't play...the target will be empty.

Try the unmount/mount thing OP, and if that doesn't work...consult one of the many Guides we have here...maybe they know something.

It detects them from the download folder before i move it to the music folder for organizational purposes, i want to re-scan so that it picks up new location. FC music oddly doesnt help, so ill stick to reboots since its very rare that I even have to do this. Close this

Thats exactly it, I wish that functionality was built into the stock player, but thats saves me a reboot in the case that i ever download an mp3 on my phone then move it to the music folder, thanks Brian

It's a nice little app. Can't ask for much more. Does what it's supposed to and no intrusive permissions!

Definately, inspired me to do a little play store browsing too, see if i find anything else interesting

So did unmount/mount not work, or did you even try it?

I havent tried it or the app Brian suggested, I'd have to download/move something. In the future I'll have 2 ways to fix it tho so thanks :D

It does work. That's how I used to do it, and what led me to finding this app. For me, having an almost full 32 gb card, it takes too long waiting for the mount. Much easier just to tap an icon.

Lol glad I didnt do it then b/c I too have a GSkill 32GB Class10, however, about 20gb free lol :D

I haven't noticed delays. I have a 32 gig card (7 gigs left) and every couple of days I am connecting as an SD card to the PC to transfer something over. When I switch back to charge only, it doesn't take too long for everything to normalize.

I suspect that the disconnect is in our workflow. I always start my music on my desktop PC. All downloads start there, and then they are then copied to 3 other drives within 1 day for backup (one of which being my phone). So for me, anytime a new song is obtained, it's always from a PC, and then the phone gets plugged in to save its copy, so I always go through a mounting cycle for MP3s. Even if the phone got it first, I would be connecting to my PC to save it to the other drives which would initiate the mounting cycle.

I suppose it comes down to workflow. :D
