Root Stocked Evo's running new update?

Anyone know if the stocked evo's in the local stores are running the new OTA yet or are they only shipped that way if you order them from sprint.com or customer service? I'm planning to get my wife an Evo this weekend, and the closest Sprint store has them in stock. Just doesn't seem logical they'd require their employees to open, boot, then update the existing stock before selling them. If i have a choice, i'll make sure they don't run any updates prior to handing the phone over this weekend.

i only heard of a refurb having the ota updated out f the box. i haven't heard of any new in box yet. but i would not be surprised if it was the same as well. yeah just make sure that they do not updated if it is not.

I thought i read on here they were shipping with the new OTA installed. I'd like to root the wife's Evo, but just use the rooted stock ROM before changing anything around. She's gotta use it in stock form for a bit before she can appreciate the advantages of using a custom ROM

Feels kinda odd not getting the Evo 3D, and purchasing a phone that's already been out for a year instead. It's all about development and support though, gotta let the 3D be tested by others with more time and money before I can recommend it for myself or others.

Right here well my buddies but he traded for a brand new one after he did the ota after I told him not to. It came with the OTA already... Thats why I'm waiting for a root method for his phone. :'(

yeah that is why i am waiting. i have one more year until i'm eligible again for an upgrade. i want to see what dev support is on the latest and greatest phone at that point in time before i choose my next phone. i'm so glad i picked the evo when i did. the dev support for this phone is amazing.

yeah i new at some point in time the new phones will already be updated. and i think a lot of people now are waiting for that elusive exploit to be found.
