I have rooted and now my phone is attempting to perform the update to unroot my phone. So far I have ignored it in order to retain root, but is there a means to stop my phone from reminding me every half an hour?
you can make some changes in the build.prop, using root explorer or some similar tool.Aside from installing ShabbyMod. (Which I think the author is freaking AWESOME for his contributions)
Is there no other way to turn off the notifications? I've tried everything from freezing the 'System Update' process using Titanium Backup to renaming that 'otacerts.zip'. Which I got from the following link:
HOWTO: Disable OTA with or without root!
I really like having root but this constant reminder is really beginning to be a pain in the rear. I'm hoping that there is something I can do to make it go away.

Though be careful as if you mess it up you will not have a working phone.

Just upgrade to ShabbyMod its the same exact thing as the stock version except it runs alot smoother and has all the bloat removed. You won't get any harassing notifications then. Make sure you do a factory reset first cause mine failed when I tried to upgrade my rooted stock. After I did a factory reset it took first try.
I too am hesitant to use custom roms, not that im worried about the what if's, its because I like the slim practically vanilla android, for example I love the stock launcher I dont care for the themed launcher, I have a metropcs optimus M that uses the lg launcher I replaced that with a stock gingerbread launcher. I also like no extra running things helps my battery last longer I could have just edited, or even just replaced the build.prop I did it before but I thought I would check out shabbymod.6 First thing I did was go through the app folder and remove and replace the few items I dont want and change the launcher, as I said I like the default launcher better. I have not had it on long enough to see any differences as I just got done doing this about an hour ago. Thanks for the response. To be frank I'm quite hesitant about putting custom mods on the phone. I actually don't mind the stock stuff I have right now. I rooted and was able to remove some of the apps that were useless to me. I'm quite happy with just the small changes I did, without affecting the entire system as a whole.
I guess it's mostly due to a lot of 'it could happen to you' responses from people whom had failed installed roms.
Guess I was looking for a way to do it without installing a custom rom. I've looked around the internet for this 'build.prop' thing but came out sorta empty. It's somewhat hard to follow.
If there isn't any other way to do it then I may have to consider other options.

I do have one thing I would love shabby to look into, This also happened on the stock rom. In wifi settings advanced you can change the sleep time of the wifi, I change it to never so when I hit the button to wake the screen I can use the wifi immediately, However on this phone it does not seem to work. And specifically since installing shabbymod.6 if the screen stays off for more then 10 mins it shuts down the wifi so it has some improvement over stock in that regard.
If you like the vanilla type you can do what I did. Open shabbymod in winrar or 7zip and go through and make the changes you like, I will put the one I made up for reference. it has the stock launcher not the themed one the rest is just things I pulled out so I would not have to after the rom was installed.Okay it seems I found a fix for it. It was previously mentioned in a thread by shabby.
If you take the build.prop from the Shabbymod and replace it with the one found in /system then the updates stopNote you MAY want to make a backup of your build.prop before you do this.
On a bright side I got some fixes that shabby did with just a single fileI may just go ahead and do shabbymod anyways.
STILL I just wanted to let people know that using the build.prop from ShabbyMod did fix my problem.

I could even put my apps in, such as root explorer and sd speedboost, though they are paid apps and sharing them may be frowned on.

To be honest I dont think it will be quite that easy, I think some will work that way but a few might need to be installed afterword due to needing dependency's or something. Thanks for sharing this New Optimus, i like the vanilla launcher as well .. and possibly zeam . I am new to the Android world and just curious .. if i start with this zip and just add the apks of my choice of apps is that all i need to do to have them install when i re run the mod?

Also I think there is a limit as there is reserved memory for system apps, which I think is what you would be essentially doing telling the system that these apps are system apps.
What I hope to gain by this is the space saved by removing the bloat can be used to hold essential apps then the downloaded apps can take up the non-reserved space and allow you to have more memory free.
:O!!!!!!!!
any additions or changes you guys would like to see please do make a point to post in the shabbymod thread.. if its within my power i shall try my best0.7 does away with launcherpro (its bloated) slim uses zeam and loaded uses go launcher
available space is for teh /data partition. apps on shabbymod are in system app.. honestly its a guess and check to see if you got enough spacehence putting stuff in /system/app doesnt take up "app" storage.. so all the apps i include in the rom dont affect space

Ok after lots of trial and error this is what I come up with that works.
Add into shabbymod.6
adfree
anreboot
launcher2, because I like stock launcher
SD SpeedBoost
xScope web browser, because I like this one, I took out the go launcher, or whichever it was and I took out the original web browser
I also took out other items but you can see which in the last post I made, I will not post up this one because SD Speed Boost is a paid app.
The reason I added adfree is because in my trial an error I was not finding the host file, nor was it created according to adfree.adfree is included by shabbymodjust no need for the whole app when all you want is the hosts file
sdincrease is a good free app the does the same ;0
