Help Storage shrinking when cutting & pasting within external SD card

So I’m trying to move videos on my external SD card to their own separate folders within the same external SD card. But when I cut and paste, it’s not an “instant” transfer like it is in Windows, and my storage space shrinks after I’m done pasting what I cut.

The videos are no longer in the original space, they are in their own folders, but my storage capacity looks like I just added the files and not simply moved them.

Any suggestions?

That is interesting. I am curious about a few things. How are you looking at the memory being used? What happens if you reboot the phone? Do the numbers change?

Isn't there a Move function versus cut and paste? I wonder if it would act differently?

edit: Actually, in Gallery mode, if you choose the Album setting, it lets you create a new album right there and then you can select to check items and then drag them to your new album.

Actually I'm trying to move large mkv and mp4 files. When I unplug my phone and plug it in, it remains the same. Haven't tried rebooting yet. I might try that and see what happens. I have about 40 GB of movies and shows on it now. I'd hate to have to format the card.

I hope you don't have to, as well. Hoping rebooting it will clear some cache that was used to cut and paste it.

Using the My Files app in the Samsung folder. I looked at the Images category, then drilled down and after long pressing, I was given the opportunity to make selections.

At that point, pressing the menu button, I was given the option to Move my selections.
