Root Stuck in bootloader

Successfully rooted and unlocked sim. I then wanted to bring it back to normal, unroot and lock up the bootloader. I think I made a gold card, instructions were confusing, and all of the RUU I tried didn't load up. So nothing was working. Then I remembered I backed up the original interface before rooting, so I just recovered that from flash card. I don't know if that unroots it, didn't do anything other than hit recovery and selected the file. So far success, went back to factory interface. This is where the problem began, I then went to lock up the bootloader. I did the cmd in fastboot folder, and typed "fastboot oem lock". It said it failed and then the next line it said it succeeded. Phone automatically rebooted and the bootloader showed "Relocked" at top. But now it won't boot into the regular interface, just boots back to the bootloader. And I don't have a recovery option. Just "Bootloader", "Reboot", "Reboot Bootloader", and "Power Down". Taking out the battery and adding it again doesn't do anything, done that several times. Need help.

Welcome to the forum - though sorry it couldn't be in happier circumstances!

I suspect that the reason the RUUs didn't work was because the bootloader was unlocked. So with it relocked you could try one of those. If you tell us whether your phone was unbranded or bought through a network (and if so, which) someone might be able to suggest the best RUU for you.

Also that sounds like your phone might be in fastboot mode (does it say "fastboot" on the screen)? That's the mode you want it in to run an RUU, but before doing that you could try selecting "Bootloader" - that will put you in hboot mode, and you should be able to select recovery from there. If so, you could try a factory reset from recovery, see whether that helps (also see what recovery you have?).

My guess though is that you'll either have to run an RUU, or else unlock again and flash a new ROM. If you were trying to unroot then the RUU is probably the one to try though - it should work with the phone in fastboot mode with a locked bootloader.

Thanks for the welcome!

It was giving me an 155 error when I tried loading up the RUUs, if that helps. So maybe I'll try again now that I'm locked, assuming I can get out of the bootloader.

Branded phone through PCTelecom, but it uses Bell network. Hopefully that helps with the proper RUU.

It is in fastboot mode, tried Recovery and Factory Reset in HBoot mode and both just brought me back to bootloader.

How do I see what recovery I have? I had several, but the last one I recovered on before I locked the bootloader and started this bootloader loops was the stock one that originally came with my phone.

What exactly is unrooting, is that just a term meant that you are bringing back stock rom, or does it require flashing, kernal something, and clearing cache, because I have no idea about any of that stuff. I just followed the directions when I rooted. The instructions for unrooting is where I deviated because the RUU were not loading up. So I recovered my original rom that I backed up before rooting.

Update: I tried doing the RUU thing again now that bootloader is relocked, I tried the top three WWE RUU from this site [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers. Instead of a 155 error, I'm now getting a 132 - signature error. Still stuck in bootloader.

I'm not a Desire C expert, so not the best person to suggest RUUs. But if you have a branded device you generally need the matching branded RUU, though if your goldcard is working that will let you run one with a different branding.

However, I can tell you why those didn't work: they are for the Desire, not the Desire C - different phones. You also need to make sure it's for the right model of your phone - GSM or CDMA (being a Brit I don't know what your network uses).

See whether the All Things Root Guide sticky post in this device's All Things Root subforum has any pointers to RUUs. You'll want one for your network, or the most recent WWE if the goldcard allows - RUUs cannot downgrade hboot, so old ones may not work regardless.

Thanks, didn't realize was trying to upload the wrong RUU. So I found the HTC Golf ones, only 4 available, 1 Asian and 3 Euros, tried all of them and none of them worked, got a 133 model id error.

So now what? Should I try unlocking the bootloader again and try doing the RUU, or should I try rooting my phone again, assuming it isn't rooted right now? I just want to get back to where it was when I first bought it.

If you have a GSM-simcard DESIRE C phone you can try to flash nameless rom or if you want factory htc rom just make sure your unlocked bootloader and have a cwm recovery, it is included in in namelessrom zip just extract the recovery.img and flash in bootloader mode, flash any rom in CWM recovery.

All instructions readme inside of rom zips.

NOTE: This is only for GSM not CDMA simcardless phones, if your in CDMA phone your out of luck. Only way is warranty.

What does it say at the top of your boot loader screen? The exact text.

Getting model id errors from European and Asian RUUs makes me suspect you have a CDMA phone (which isn't used outside of North America). The info on the boot loader screen will tell us. In particular, "golfu" would be GSM, whereas "golfc" would be CDMA.

It uses a sim card, golfu on bootloader screen.

Ok, I unlocked it again and that seemed to fix everything, would reboot properly. I then went through the whole rooting process again that I did earlier and then unrooted again using my original backed up files just to be extra sure. Locked up the phone, and it properly loads. But now I have a new problem, I can't factory reset, when I do, it reloads to bootloader, and if I click the factory reset in bootloader, it again just reloads to bootloader. No factory reset happens. It seems the problem is with the locking, if I unlock again, can factory reset.

It does give me an odd message when I do lock, maybe this has to do with it.
C:\Android>fastboot oem lock
...
(bootloader) Lock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 1.172s

Successful and fail at the same time? Successfully relocks, but failing at something.

....Nice video but doesn't help my situation. I have the stock rom, I just can't relock the bootloader or it won't allow me to factory reset.
