Root Stuck in H-Boot loop with recovery

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new with rooting but I rooted my own phone successfully and I was in the process of rooting my brothers evo for him and I ran into trouble and I am now stuck in a loop where every time I try to reboot it sends me to the hboot page where I can choose recovery and all that.

I think that PC36IMG.zip is at the heart of the problem as it say no image or wrong image when it trys to scan.

Ive already tried RUU recovery

I also took the SD card which i used during the rooting process out and put in a clean stock one.

S-on
Hboot - 2.18.0001
amon ra recovery

I feel awful because this is my brother phone. please help!

You you have a custom recovery and I assume the bootloader is unlocked?

Just flash a custom ROM! Go with MikG 3.11!

MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]

Instructions for flashing ROMs and everything
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

Do I need to do the 3.11 full wipe and clear the data and cache and everything from recovery again on the new SD card?

The reason Im so skeptical of that is its the exact rom i had flashed on the other one and it appeared to work and install and all before it got stuck in the hboot loop.

Thanks!

Make sure you are physically wiping everything except for the SD card in recovery at least once. I'd do it twice to be sure it gets clean. Then flash the ROM.

Make sure to wipe SD-EXT and SD-android.secure. Just dont wipe the normal SD card

I did all of this and at the end of the install when it says rebooting device it booted right back into hboot and I appear to be in the exact same spot even after it scanned again and after I attempted to reboot it again.

Ill do step by step:

1. removed battery - screen shows up says unlocked at tom then fastboot about half way down and then bootloader a bit past that.
2. click bootloader by pressing power button.-where it said fastboot switches to Hboot and fastboot is a little past that, just under that reads recovery. I press down volume to get there and then click.
3.Goes to HTC EVO 4G screen and then recovery screen that says android system recovery.
4. I wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data
5. I press return and then flash zip from sdcard
6. I press choose zip from sd card.
7. I choose ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip - i confirm and a million things delete then format
8.I press choose zip from sdcard again
9. I select MikG-v3.11-Update-signed.zip - click power to confirm - MikG does its thing.
10. MikG says update complete! rebooting device.
11. Device powers off and shows the same screen as step 1

Keep the help coming please!

looks like you have the flashing part down. and i see you can get into recovery which is always a good thing.

how long are you waiting? it will always take longer to boot up when you wipe dalvik cache and cache as it has to build those back up before you can start using the phone. 10-15 min boot time is not unusual.

No wait time at all. Almost instantly when it says update complete it goes black (power off) and almost instantly again goes back to the first hboot screen.

wait so after flashing mikg it reboots and then goes back to the bootloader screen? where it shows your hboot version and where you it says unlocked?

what recovery do you have?

If I'm reading correctly its rebooting him back into H-boot.

This is strange.

A recovery issue maybe?

Try redownloading Amon Ra 2.3 and putting it on the SD Card and updating via the PC36IMG method in H-boot. Then try again.

Also Re-download MikG to make sure it wasnt a bad download as well.

Try again

you were correct. and could you go into a little more detail about this.

Thanks!

so in recovery you can get to your card by selecting on the main menu usb-ms toggle (if you are on amon ra2.3) make sure that your evo is connected via usb before selecting that option. first delete the first PC36IMG file on the sd card.

now i would re-download mikg 3.11 and move it over to the card. and then flash it in recovery following what you have done previously. again make sure that you wipe really well. maybe d it a few times and do the superwipe as well a few times then flash the rom.

if that does not work then we can try and re-install amon ra2.3 again and see if that helps.

Step 9 here is your problem. You didn't download the full ROM; you downloaded the update that's supposed to be flashed after the full 3.1 zip. If you either do that, or get the full 3.11 zip (if there is one), you should be fine.
