Root stuck on splash screen kouma kernel 2.5

I have rooted my Samsung Prevail and been extremely happy. It has been working for over a month..got a fast 32gb SD card and partitioned with 2 gb of internal memory...no problems with loading apps now! Used the guide for idoits...as this is my first venture into this level of phones. Was easier than alot of programs I have installed.

My reason for this post is that I am stuck in the KOUMA KERNAL 2.5 SPLASH screen every time I boot. I can reboot to CWM...but do not know what to do if anything from there.

I did a back up early in my rooting..so I know I could go there, but then I would have to reload a bunch of apps. Is there anything else to try first?

Hi, welcome to the forums! My suggestion would be to reflash Kouma Kernel since you do have access to CWM.

What did you do prior to this happening?
Did you change your sdcard?
Did you change modes?

Have you tried wiping dalvik cache? (In the advanced menu, in cwm)

Like LV said you must have changed something! If all else fails make a backup now and then restore the old backup and then do an advanced restore of the sdext of this new backup to restore your apps and see what happens! Or do a restore of your old backup and just reload your apps from the store. ALWAYS keep making backups as you make changes that work good!!!! This way when a problem happens you can restore your last best working backup and not be far from where you last were before the problem happens!!!

I have this same exact problem, starting tonight. My screen locked (button lights on, nothing on the screen) so I rebooted the phone. Now every time it starts up, it gets stuck on the Kouma boot screen. I can get into CWM but when I try to restore backup, it says "Can't mount the backup path". The SD card was read fine by my coworkers phone. I haven't changed anything on the phone in at least a week, and I reboot fairly frequently. edit: Just tried connecting the phone via usb to my laptop, CWM says "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile or directory (No such file or directory)"

Seems to me like that your SD-Card maybe is going bad..... Only thing to try would be to get everything copied off the card ( if you still can do it ) then try to repartition the card and create a new sdext !!

Got home, copied the full SD card to my computer with my reader, put the card back in, and the phone booted like normal. I suppose I just need to keep an eye on my phone to make sure it doesn't do it again

Not sure what the problem was...... but getting stuck on the Kouma-logo, 9 out of 10 times indicates thaty there is either something wrong with the sdext or the the user changed modes in Koumasettings...... ( after changing DATA to SSM or visa verse requires a sdext format ) usually formatting the sdext solves the problem !

I wanted to get back on my status. I had the original post and was able to solve the issue of getting stuck in the splash screen by leaving the battery out overnight....probably did not have to wait that long, but when I did, it booted up fine. I did an immediate back up and have been using for a day without a hitch.

:)

I have been having more and more frequent variations on the original problem, except CWM backup/restore doesn't have mounting problems. It has become a multiple time per day issue; looks like it is caused by a text message about half the time. I am going to try to move to 3.75 final when I have some time. Issue started around when it was released, but not sure how it could be connected, just hoping it will fix it.

Hi, I've had same issues with mines.

Solution -

  1. Power Off Phone
  2. Reboot into CMW (V+ and Power button)
  3. Choose -reboot system now
  4. Boots everytime
It happened when i used the FA1, FE16, FF1. EJ06 works great with it. For some reason it like it better.

Enjoy:D

OP seems to have been solved, I threadjacked rather than start a duplicate...for myself, that seemed to work on occasion, but I clearly had a deeper problem.

For my issue, I realized that now I could format sd-ext and restore. Recent backup didn't fix the issue. So I looked at my earliest post in this thread and restored a backup from the day before. Also uninstalled NoLED - despite being incredibly handy on this phone (WTF SAMSUNG, PUT A CHEAP LED ON THERE) I feel like it could have been tied to my issue. No reboot required so far.

Installed the new CTMod, 3.75 final, once I got KoumaKernel up and running it seemed to be working a little slow but otherwise fine. Installed Email/Swype/Chat using APK-Installer from CWM, and on reboot it locks at the KoumaKernel screen again, just like before. I did get it restarted by going into CWM and selecting reboot, but I'm worried that this didn't fix the problem at all.

Is there anything else I could try besides switching SD cards? I specifically bought this one to use with this phone, as per http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/636704-upgrade-sd-class-10-worthwhile.html

Attempted to switch to an older 2gb card, followed the appropriate steps, and even that gets stuck at the Kouma Kernel screen. Any idea what I can do? This phone is useless right now. I know CWM has a factory reset, is that the best way going about getting this currently worthless piece of plastic to act like a phone?

edit:
Going to reformat my cards and restore with odin. I can't afford not to have a phone this often

One thing always to remember :

After you installed CTMod and went to the CTMod>>>Kouma settings and changed to DATA, you need to immediately reboot into CWM and re-format your sdext !!!!And then reboot your system normally. If you install the ROM and restart your system WITHOUT ( again ) reformatting your sdext, you most likely get stuck on the Kouma Logo !!

And besides that, why would yo need to make email, swipe and chat a system app ????? ( keyboard I can understand...... )

[this section was added via edit] I could never boot past the logo to change the settings, I have been trying to follow your sugestions

I followed the CTMod 3.75 thread for installing the missing apps, I need gchat, I thought email would be gmail (it wasnt), and I thought I would use Swype (I won't). Those are things removed that can be re-added from my understanding of the post.

I have followed all the instructions that I can find for these steps, and think I should start from scratch via odin. I really appreciate your help as well as that of the others. You can bet that you will see posts from me soon once I re-root ---- it definitely has tons of benefits over stock when it is working, although stock seems to be running faster for me right now. I just seem to have messed something up around the way

Felt adventurous and went about re-rooting it. Once I switch Kouma Kernel to Data mode, then format sd-ext, I get stuck at the screen. This is on the original and faster SD card. Now I'm just going to try with CTMod and without KoumaKernel set to data to see if I run into any errors.

I'm on HalfAss rom and have the exact same issue. I've reflashed, restarted, partitioned the sd card in CWM, restarted, set KM to Data mode, restarted, formatted sd-ext, restarted and every single time I get stuck on the boot logo (the Boost one in my case since I'm on HAM).

It sucks, but I think I might just have to stick with the stock setting and just not install anything large.

I had the exact same issue, seems some phones just don't like kouma for some reason. Mine worked fine long as I left kouma settings disabled, unfortunately I need to load more than a half dozen apps the stock internal memory allows.:(

I've been running my phone rooted with CTMod for a few days now without a single issue other than some slowdown that required a reboot. From what I can tell, the problem has something to do with KoumaKernel and my phone since I had the same issue with three memory cards

Have you tried bloods new fix zip? Others had problems and fixing superuser fixed it for them so there is a fix zip to flash.
