Help stupid nexus user, help please

can some one tell me how to put films on my nexus, (start to finish) i have some films on my pc, some avi some mp4, but i cant seem to get them on my phone, i dont know what i doing and dont wont to mess my phone up
 
1 hook up ur phone to PC
2 open up galaxy nexus folder
3 there's movie folder
4 drag ur movie film to that movie folder
5 u r done

now on ur GNex, if its in avi , divix, wmv format it doesnt support yet.
so u need media players like dice player ad (they got rid of full version), or mx plalyer.
u can get those apps from market
 
I use RockPlayer light...excellent compatibility with file types, and a good customisable skip function for getting through adverts in recorded tv I've transferred over.
 
i downloaded mx player then ive connected my phone, clicked start, my computer, then i have 2 galaxy files, 1 is empty the other has folders in like alarm podcast music and MOVIES,
when i drag and drop a film in i get a message saying.
the file type is not supported on this device, if its a media file i could use windows to convert prior to transfer & do i wish to skip this file,.

what am i doing wrong
 
@tuffers, we always get that 'error' message because we're transfering the file via wdp. But don't worry, just click 'yes' to go ahead and copy the file over. It will work.

For the player, I also use MX player pro. Works beautifully and is noticeably 'quicker' and 'smoother' (particularly the interface) than other apps I've tried. Mind you, the internal video/gallery apps aren't too bad if they can read the file type.
 
You should try updating your Windows Media Player if your using a pc. I was getting the same errors and couldn't transfer anything until I made sure it was up to date.

id click yes if it was there. I get the message. Skip. Skip all. Or cancel.
I will try updating windows snd try again
 
Alternatively you could convert the files to a format the GN supports natively if you don't want to use/buy a 3rd party player or put up with ads.
