Stupid Proximity Sensor

I have a Samsung Galaxy 2S Android version 2.3.6 I have Root (if that matters)

My problem is this...

I call my stupid bank.. They have an Automated system. It says Press 1 for English... I try to press the number-pad button but the screen immediately shuts off... I cant enter my bank card number... the call ends then amazingly the screen comes back on.

I want to disable or remove the programming for this... How can i do that?

If I open the phone & say cut the stupid wires will that work?

I dont care if my face touches buttons while i talk... people can just deal with it... I hate when they add Features that suck.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Josh :wavey: Welcome to the forums.

I can't remember if 2.3.6 has the option, but tap your call button, then tap your menu button. Is there an option for turning off the proximity sensor?

If not, you can update to ICS 4.0.4 or see if there is something in the Play Store you can use for the S2 to turn it off.

I actually like this function on my phone running ICS, the screen goes off when you place the phone close to your face and it comes back on when you move the phone away from it. It just takes a moment sometimes to come back up. On ICS the settings are on: Settings, Device: Call, Turn proximity sensor.

Well i did check & sadly I have no such option that i can find to shut this off... Its actually a good idea & seems to work fine untill i need to use the keypad during a call... like on an automated call.... mine turns on when i move away from my face but only for a half a second... then it turns off again... If I were to upgrade to the ICS 4.0.4 would this be disabled... or does that version have an off switch? Can i get it as a rooted rom?

You could use Odin in this guide to update to ICS 4.0.4. Or you could probably do it through Kies. The proximity sensor is on by default. It can be turned on or off in settings like I explained above. I can't remember if it is in a custom rom. If the rom is based on ICS I would assume it would be. There may be an app in the Play Store that would do the same thing if you don't want to update.
