Root su Binary Outdated??? N00b to rooting needs help!!

ok guys, i JUST rooted my phone and im so happy i did, i was able to get rid of all the pre-installed apps that just took up space... i used gingerbreak 1.20 and it was sooo easy.. i also have SuperUser on my phone and gave apps like Link2SD superuser permission...

well today i downloaded a popular free app from the Google Play store and after it downloaded i got a little thing at the top of the screen that says.. "su binary outdated"... so i clicked on it to see what it was, i knew "su" stood for superuser, but i was still sketchy on it... so could someone PLEASE tell me if i should or shouldnt update this? should i just ignore it?

please let me know... thanks a lot!

Su binaries are what root apps use to interact with Android at system level. It's fine to update and i'd recommend doing it... either from status bar notification or you can do it thru superuser app

are you sure? because i did some searching on Google and a lot of people were saying it ruined their phone... i have an LG Optimus V and am a total n00b to rooting... i just want to make sure it's not going to be an issue... i know it's something to do with Superuser so i assume it should be ok, but ive seen mixed answers and just want to make sure...

anyone else have any info?

I'm not good at explaining stuff, but yes it is perfectly safe to update the binary. If you are really unsure, make a nandroid backup first. If you don't have a custom recovery I would recommend installing one quick, and making a nandroid before you remove any more app or anything.

I update the binary on my OV every time I flash a new ROM. Like Phatninja55 said....Make your nandroid!!! If you bork your phone, you can just flash your nandroid from recovery and everything is back to where it was when you made the backup. If you don't have a custom recovery installed, GET ONE!!! Your recovery can be your failsafe. We've all screwed something up that requires a nandroid restore....and if you don't have one, things get much more complicated!!!
Phatninja is a veteran. Rest assured that his advice will not lead you to screw up your phone. Have some faith in the Forum!!! :D

If your new to rooting i would suggest that you read the sticky^ " NEVER DO A FACTORY RESET ON YOUR ROOTED PHONE "
