Help Submitted VZ Trouble Ticket

Not that I expect it to do anything to accelerate the patch process, but I called in a trouble ticket to VZ today. Since I had just done a full factory reset there was not much they could do other than record my issues. My coworker and his wife are returning their DX2's tonight that they bought Friday to replace DX's. They could not shoot video over the weekend for love nor money and hers was overheating to the point of shutdown. They both find them laggy and awkward to use compared to DX on GB. I have all the same issues and I reported as such. I don't shoot much video and I have the extended battery. I don't go to fringe areas that seem to be one source of the overheating. It is really pathetic how bad the quality control is with electronic devices these days. Ship any old thing the public will accept and fix the issues (if even possible) later. What is worse they may or may not fix them before the design life is over, and beyond some point they just stop even trying. If this ends up being a flaw or flaws in the Tegra2 I seriously doubt the consumer will ever know. Because that might necessitate a mass recall. The bean counters will see to it we stay in the dark.

I did find that generally I'm better off with zero 3rd party apps installed after the wipe. But that is not very practical so I'll be installing them 1 or 2 at a time to see if things go noticeably BAD.

Tegra 2 is not the problem, but probably VZW rushing firmware to push the device out and bridge for the Bionic miss probably is. Not to mention bleed out inventory off DX add-ons and spare DX model components.

I respect your ticket effort, but the replies back from level two Moto techs dismissed all issues to errant apps and the solution was given to reset the DX2 to stock. The audio skip solution suggested was to move mp3s to the internal storage. I wish I were joking, but serious. Seems Motorola either does not think there are any firmware issues, or do not want to invest in fixing issues. Perhaps they assume a Gingerbread update will fix the issues, but that could be September.

Harumph... I stand by my rant about quality control and no accountability to the consumer.

The Dx2 was a huge dissapointment....I am amazed at how poor the overall product was, upon release day....They clearly didnt test it enough or just didnt care....I have a feeling they are sitting on a HUGE pile of returned devices.......Ive never returned a phone until the DX2....I had all the issues, overheating, skiping, popping, bad lag upon wake up,unable to shoot videos, freezing using HD mirror, and an inopperative battery charge indicator that didnt function until after you took it off the charger,a minute later it would finally display the new state of charge...so in order to know if it was charged you had to take it off the charger and wait a minute....if you put it on at 20%,5 hrs later it still displayed 20%,even though it was charged....

What I dont understand, and yes Im partly to blame, is how good reviews the phone is getting through Verizon, Amazon, and other review websites from users.

I gave the DX2 a good review too, since did not expect basic functions to be poor. I attributed the issues at first to rogue apps, but had same issues resetting to stock and minimal apps.

Some reviewers probably assumed similar things, or had the device a short period and without a lot of use.

For what it's worth, I've been very happy with mine too

Don't use it for music, so not sure about the 'popping' issue

What I mean to say is that I try to use my phone for almost everything. Alarm, Schedule, Music, Email, Navigation, Games, and Searching and there are issues I encounter including extreme heat, phone restarting, music popping/skipping, problems with certain apps that I had to problem with when I had the Droid X and I haven't made a review for the phone. I've seen plenty of people write about problems with their phone in forums, so much even that they returned it, but I dont see a lot of people putting these troubled reviews online. I wonder if Motorola or Verizon if really know how bad it is for some people and if they will even do something about it.

I have had my DX2 since early launch and I have not had any of the problems people talk about. The only issue I have had is Pandora skipping songs, but with the use of Google Music, I haven't been using Pandora.

I have honestly been enjoying this phone! I came from the OG Droid, so it's way better... minus the stock Android... I do miss that :( I knew this phone came with Blur so I was prepared to accept that and with Launcher Pro I try to forget it's there.
