Root Success!!! Bloatware Removed!!!

Dont take my word for it but i think its a level 1 permanent root.
But again dont take my word for it. U should PM mike to get a faster fresponse

I myself think it's a semi-perm root. Somewhat hard to explain..

It allows perm-root for most apps (don't quote me either). In that aspect due to the lack of a functional su and superuser you can't control the root access. @ the end of the bloat removal it asks you do you want to allow this. I chose no as previously posted I'm gonna wait for the bounty recruit and make my pledge. Guess I'm just on noid about having that lack of control.

~but those are my thoughts on the matter.

its perm root in the scenes that it will stick after reboot.

however added files can be manually removed and a factory reset will wipe the root from working any longer.

Removed apps however will not be reinstalled when factory reset is performed.
Removed bloatware apps are permanently removed. most can be re-downloaded via Metro's App store except things like the IronMan movie app.

I factory reset then checked it with root checke, said I was still rooted so......?
Not that I'm worried about. I wasn't trying to remove the root I had just screwed something else up. :-)

just got it working yesterday. only took 2 tries. thanks for the hard work mike. now i just gotta work on making this damn battery last.

Ok disregard my last message. I downloaded the samsung drivers from the easytether website and I can get the phone to mount properly at least half the time. I ran your software and the soup and root completed successfully. Then I ran the bloatware part and it prompted me which apps I wanted removed. I backed them all up on my pc and removed the ones I wanted. But it never seems to finish and tell me to remove the battery. It makes a bunch of sounds after asking me if I want to give all apps root access and then I just see the screen with all the "initalized data" files (hope that makes sense).when removing the battery and doing the soft reset I still have no root and the bloatware is still there.

Does the bloatware removal appp need administrator priviliges? Does it not runt by dafeult? Any idea what I'm doing wrong.

When you run the script, DO NOT TOUCH the computer.
Don't even sneeze in its direction! LOL
But yeah, the thing is the script is using code injection (usually dirty, but that one isn't, I checked it myself ;) )
So if you click anywhere, the code goes in the focused window as opposed to the terminal, and all sorts of funky things happen. It's like expecting your computer to root your phone by typing randomly on the keyboard :D

Also, be patient. Some people have reported having to wait upwards of 10 minutes for it to be done. (mine was just under 2 minutes, and worked on the second try. I accidently clicked with my laptop's touchpad the first time)

oki was on the way to the beach when I tried and the car was moving all around lol ill try letting it run for like 10 or 15 min and see what happens. Thanks guys. Especially you mike. We all owe u for ur awesome genius indulge rooting method ;)

OK, I have been working with some of the guys over at Android Creative Syndicate an have merged my bloatware removal script with there new 1 click root script. This new script will root the phone, remove the bloatware and install a working SuperUser.apk. This means the phone is now protected by the superuser app and not left open to grant access to all apps.

The new download can be found at: http://androidinvasion.us/downloads/Root_And_Bloatware_Removal.zip

This phone is seriously starting to piss me the **** off. Does anyone know why my computer will never sync with my phone via USB mass storage unless the phone is power cycled? Its ****ing annoying as hell.

Awesome. Need to know same stuff as before. Can root be removed with factory reset? Can bloatware be individually removed and then restored at any time?

Make sure you have drivers for the phone installed beforehand.
http://androidinvasion.us/downloads/SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones (x86).exe
http://androidinvasion.us/downloads/SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones (x64).exe

Unzip the files to a location on the computer and then run the run.bat

BTW you guys have done a hell of a job. The progress you guys have made is pretty ****ing remarkable. I cant wait to try this new method out first hand (need to know if root can be removed first with factory reset first.) Pretty damn excited to have this thing rooted with all the crapware removed.

Looking forward to overclocking the processer too. That would further improve the battery life if using SetCPU. Any plans for that yet?

im using setcpu as we speak

also when i connect the phone to pc i have to enable debugging everytime first then plug in usb

My USB debugging is always on. Do you turn it off and then turn it back on before connecting the phone? Or do you always turn it off right after your done mounting the phone?

EDIT: and is your indulge overclocked?

So I seem to be stuck on step 1 of the process installing the drivers have run the installer 3 times now and it always hangs or an error occurs. Any ideas or suggestions? I am running Vista and using the X86 driver set. I wanna get this thing rooted because I am tired of metro's stock apps popping up.

These are the steps I took for the 'root' to finally work with my phone, after having attempted four previous times.

Computer OS: Windows 7 64bit

downloaded:
Root_And_Bloatware_Removal.zip
run.bat has date/time: 4-16-2011 11:21 AM

extracted contents of zip to C:\souproot

Edited computer path (click start, right click Computer, left click Properties, Advanced System settings, click Enviroment Variables, click PATH, click Edit..., copy line, paste to a notepad, remove line to Android SDK if installed, added this line with semi-colon: ;c:\souproot ,copy new path from notepad and paste into PATH, click OK, click OK, Click Apply, Click OK)

Note: The path can be changed back again to re add the Android SDK if that is installed on your computer.

On computer checked the Installed version of : SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones.exe

If the version is earlier than newer version then

> uninstall previous drivers (Program Uninstall in the Control Panel)
> restart computer
> install new drivers
> restart computer
> plug in your phone

On the phone, press Guide button (lower left), press settings, Applications, Development, place checks on both check boxes (USB debugging and Allow mock locations).

connect phone to computer via usb, let the driver install on computer.

Disable the computer's Anti Virus if needed.

Uninstall Anti-Virus from phone, if installed.

Remove Ethernet cable from computer (did this to keep computer software from connecting to anything).

locate in folder, C:\souproot , the file RUN.bat
right click and RUN as Administrator.

Follow the prompts in the command window and do what is asked.
=================================

:) NICE WORK to all who contributed and created the root/bloat software remover(s) !!!

To delete the facebook app...

Download Super Manager and open it. Give super user access to the program and g to the file manager. Press back twice to access the "/" folder and find "system". Open "system" and give r/w access. Then open folder named "app". Then go to your facebook app and move it to another folder or delete it.

Make sure you watch what you do! If you are not careful you can really mess up your phone!

You are better of freezing the apps you don't like. Titanium backup will freeze them and hide them. Out of sight out of mind. Then if you need to unroot, you can thaw them and put 'em back.
