your phone is not connected simply go to www.samsungmobile.com and get the drivers for your phone then use the program above and i strongly suggest (barnacle) works great on my metro pcs galaxy indulge but when using phone as hot spot strongly uses the battery quik i suggest keeping phone plug into wall charger while using as hotspot
and thanks for the app for root :)

My phone's not even hot when it shuts off. I took the back phone cover off and just have my case on it. It let's it breath more and the speakers louder. It's helps I deff recommend doin this.

You should check all your apps permissions...some say they will reboot/restart your phone. One of them is the culprit.

I had one app that would do it everytime I disabled it and a few hours later or whenever it wanted it would reboot my phone because by rebooting phone this would start up the app again.

Sometimes they will reboot even if you don't disable the app.

I eventually deleted the fckr !

Read the permissions I tell ya some of them are just crazy..it's like
letting them walk around your house to snoop at free will.

Unfortunately the newer versions of the tethering app suffer from the "Restart bug" so I suggest everyone to use pre12 and choose Samsung Epic 4g as the device profile under settings

hey guys, first i want to take some time to thank you ALL for making our lives and phones better lol... also, i read the first page of this thread and then i noticed there was 4 more lol.. so has the wifi tethering been a success, if so, how? if your too lazy to explain just send me the link :)

^ lolz thanks yeah i noticed that and now im tethering !! woohoo i tried clicking on the link but it didnt work thats why i asked ,, then i downloaded google goggles and took a pic of the bar code and done deal! im tethering everything now lolz now.. THANK YOU ALL once again, btw.... what is a safe temperature range to keep the battery?

btw i used the pre-14, then i notice the pre-12 is being reccomended.. which one should i use.. also this only works on rooted phones right??

The temperature readings on all Indulge are about 80 degrees fahrenheit low so add 80F or 27C.
Above 120F or 49C degrees is shortening its life.

It only works on rooted phones

Stop your tethering, wait a few seconds, try to start it again. I bet it wont work with pre14

Try to stop the tethering by clicking the main screen then wait twenty seconds and try to start it again. It probably wont work but I'm curious to know if it does. Many of us had a problem where you could only tether one time and then had to reboot to get it working again.

yup, you're right, i tried to restart and the screen just kept sayin " starting tether" or something of that kind.. but never started then the phone volume went down on its own lolz..but as we speak the pre 12 is being installed

or not.. ugh sometimes this phone pisses me off

edit: installed pre 12 .. restarts with no problems. im actually connected to tether writing this post :)

btw.. does anyone else barely get 4g? im in tampa, fl and supposedly the coverage around here is great but 90% of the time im not on 4g wtf

I have found the LTE coverage to be very good almost everywhere. I have tried almost all of North Pinellas, some St. Pete, some Tampa, and all the way out to Wesley Chapel and up into New Port Richey and just about everywhere in between. Works almost everywhere. Except on like SR 54 and like Gunn Hwy, but that's kind of out in the sticks.

Speeds testing pretty consistently 1300-1400 kbps up and down. Lately, I get the occasional 4-5000 kbps result (down, with 2-4000 kbps up) (St. Pete, Clearwater usually it seems)!

Outages, however, have been another story, especially lately (ie, places of known previous strong coverage now no LTE sometimes). Well, either that or my phone has gotten messed up somehow recently, I'm still trying to narrow that part down...

/offtopic ;)

Anyone figured out the password I have no way to root I've tried everything directions on how to root make no sense busybox is installed correctly but no root any help guys?

There's no password. The original wifi app was purposefully crippled/misconfigured by metro. So you can't even enter a password as it doesn't have any. Furthermore, actually editing the files to change the password, you'd notice that you'd still be out of luck as the dhcp server on the phone is also borked.
To root, follow the instructions on the all things root sub forums, download the one click root and click on run.bat
It's the childproof way of doing it. :)

I was just able to turn on wifi tethering on the phone without needing root.

looks like they left the capability in the phone but just removed the menu from settings.

:)

I'll post how to do it after I test out a few more things.+

@@@ Update @@@
thanks to Silvist for pointing this out.

A new version of the Wifi Tether app is working with the indulge.

Im getting 5mb down from the phone to my ipad.
http://androidinvasion.us/apps/wifi_tether_v3_0-pre13.apk

Under wifi tether app settings
Change Device-Profile to Samsung Galaxy Indulge
Change Setup-Method to Auto
and Access-Control should be off unless you want it and know what it is.

I ran it on my phone for two and a half hours. The battery went from 86% to 9%. The phone didnt become hot like it did when using barnical. Also by using the settings listed the hotspot will run in infrastructure mode, not Ad-Hoc.

Great thread, a little deep unless I can remember working in SQL and Linux Firewall, or Shell Scripting. Newb here,

Just wanted to say that most of the hyperlinks in this thread are not working.

Nice work and thanks for posting

This thread is old, and that link you're quoting does work.
Copy and paste it in a new window and it'll work. The maintainer of that website used to be a forum user here but got banned a while back and in bitterness blocks access to his website from this forum. If you wish, you're more than welcome to follow the link to the original program, which you will find on google code:

I'm Going out to buy Samsung Indulge - Whats needed for WiFi LTE tethering?

THis is my FIRST ANDRIOD EVER. So pls be patient when listing instructions on how to configure, as I'm coming from a blackberry:D.

Also, I live in NYC - anyone have any tested speeds for tethering on 4G LTE network here?
