if you can't figure out the password and the encryption is in WEP why not to crack it? using aircrack-ng with ubuntu or backtrack 4. after figuring out the passwords restart the tethering a few times and try to find patterns on the passwords. it may hint you to know how the tethering feature was structured at least the encryption. i mean how hard can it be to hack wep? lol is a child's play even if it is 128bits you just need the right hardware to with injection capabilities. btw, did you guys try the MAC of the ap fallowed by 16 zeros? for 128bit encryption as password? verizon use this on some of they routers.

It's not wep, it's wpa. And that's a whole different ball game!

it is WPA2 and the password is set to be Blank by default. You cant use a blank password to connect so it wont work. Then even if you did change the password to something valid or turn off encryption like I did. There a re a few other things that need to be done.

WPA2 is nearly impossible to crack would need to do whats called a handshake and retrieve the ssid then try 2 brute force it and even then its not 100% gurantee.

I have tested out the new wifi tether app and its not as bad as I though it would be.

I started the wifi tether with my battery at 86%

I did normal surfing via my ipad for 30 minutes.
Then I downloaded a 1.3GB Episode of Security Now.

After two and a half hours the battery was at 9%

Looking at the battery stats in setting showed that Wifi Tether use 7% of the battery while display still used up most of the battery with 73%

Also with this app the phone did not heat up like it would do with barnacle.

i tired this wifi tether but it wouldnt let me connect to the we i must of done somthing wrong....

Ok I have spent the last 3.5 hours reading this Indulge thread. I first started reading because I was trying to see if there was any way to get tethering on my Samsung Indulge with metro service. If I am understanding correctly the purpose of the the new root and the download Is to have access to tethering on the phone. Bare with me the lingo is all new, first time on a forum, and new with this device.

wifi tether works, after it get root access the first time, turn it off close the app then reconnect it and it works but, if u click on certain download links in firefox and internet explorer, the links dont work, for example a torrent file being click on to download to utorrent just stalls out and eventually says check connection but web pages load quick and fine while connected to wifi tether but it is fast compared to 3g tether, my opinion, detroit...............

Download the app i just posted. I also put it in the original post(post 1).

This version of the app works with the indulge.

Also here is something else i have just discovered. in the wifi tether app setting set the Device-Profile to: Samsung Epic 4G
Set Setup-Method to: Auto

it will now show up in both Infrastructure mode instead of the default showing up just as adhoc network.

Sad to say I couldn't get my ps3 to see this really was hoping it would work. It'll see the native browser but not the app. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

It can see the native hotspot on the phone when its on. Where as if I try it with the posted tethering app it doesn't see it. My ps3 does not find android tether.......? Not sure if I said that right :-!

the the settings I just posted like 2 or three posts up.

after changing those settings reboot the phone and try the wifi tether again.

also guys I just discovered that buy doing the settings changes I suggested it also give the ability to use WPA2 instead of WEP. with the default settings WEP was the only encryption setting.

Happy to report I watched an entire movie on netflix on my ps3 using my now very awsome phone. The viewing was flawless. Kudos to mike for the help.

That is for if you turned on MAC filtering.
If you turn on mac filtering only devices that you check off will be allowed to connect and use the internet.

If you disable MAC filtering, all connected devices get internet connection.
