Suggestions to improve this web site

1. Is it possible to remove the "Your IP address has been identified as a being used by a Spam bot in the last 90 days. If you are a spam bot don't do anything. If you are a Human please contact us so we can fix this problem." feature? This has to be a bug. I could send a message. But I tried sending a second I get hit by this. Anyway, most people are using dynamically assigned connections and it would be impossible to do the thing suggested in the message. By the time I get a response my IP address would have been changed to a new one and there will be a never ending catching up game.

2. Is it possible to remove the gigantic graphic inviting me to join the forum on every page? I am already a member. On a mobile phone, this 250-pixel high graphic wipes out half the screen. Can this picture be smaller if it is really necessary?

3. Is it possible to turn off the maximum security features? This is not a banking web site. It is just for posting questions. The time-out period is too short and I find myself logging in far too often.

Thanks.

Thanks for your input. I've moved your post to the Suggestions & Feedback section, where it will be seen more readily by those who deal with such things.

As one of those who has to deal with a daily deluge of spam posted here, IP blocking is one of our main weapons. Without it spammers simply create dozens of duplicate accounts to replace each that we disable. Unfortunately, as you point out, innocent users are occasionally assigned a 'bad' address but this is definitely a case of the pros outweighing the cons.

I'm pretty sure the 'invitation' you refer to shouldn't display once your post count is above zero. As you also mention your account logging you out automatically, do you have cookies disabled in your browser?

1. This spam check resolves a lot of problems but if you have trouble with it, just use the contact form and hit me up. I will put your IP on the white list pretty fast.

Perhaps I'll ask to have features added to the plugin to let me drop it down to 45 days , or exclude members after a certain post count.

2. It is rather large. I'll ask for a slightly smaller one but.. it serves its purpose well. It will go away if you are logged in. As mentioned, make sure you check "remember me". :)

3. We won't cut back on the security.. no. It might not be a banking website but people still care about feeling confident their accounts are secure, etc. :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I don't log into this site everyday, but something has changed since the weekend and it's extremely annoying (and I'm sure, unitentional). Namely, the browser Back button is now useless because there is an intermediary link to http://androidforums.com/google-ads/Pha... (can't read the whole link because it truncates in my Back button list). The page doesn't load, it just stays on the current page. It also doesn't show in History. The only way around it is to use the Back button list (down-arrow next to Back/Forward buttons) and go back two links for evey one page! If it matters, I'm using IE8 on Windows 7. I'll try to test this from the office tomorrow using Firefox on XP.

Sorry it took me so long to report back. I couldn't reproduce the problem in the office, and I haven't been able to duplicate the problem at home since then either. Maybe Google had a temporary problem? All is well now.
