Root Super slow internet!

nuudle

Newbie
So you guys helped root my phone a while back and it went perfect. Now, several months later theres a problem. Browsing the internet on my phone is worse than dial-up.. It seems to have the exact same speed using the internet on the phone or using the hotspot with my laptop 3g or 4g,all the same super slow speed. I used the rooting for dummies with the MikG rom.. Do I maybe need an update or perhaps a setting is off?? Thanks in advance!

Well, maybe a couple things I would try.
Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Perhaps there is a tower issue in your area? Did this happen recently?
Clear cache in browser? (just a thought there)
I would try the first 2 ideas.:)
My bet is a tower thing.

I would also go to settings, updates and update your profile and prl

I do not wish to hi-jack this thread but could you (MizzouBrent) or anybody else help me understand how to do this? What i mean is that when I go into settings, I do not see "Updates" at least on the screens I have looked at...Thanks

You will need to be on a Sense based ROM, if I remember correctly you are on CM9 so you can't update them.
Once you flash a Sense ROM, then it will be under setting---> system updates---> update Profile, update PRL

THAT 'splains it!! Thanks :D

Wiped the cache, updated profile and PRL.. Also called sprint and no tower issues. This blows, went to speedtest.net and cant get anything over .83mbps on 3g and worse with 4g... Any other thoughts??

I NEVER get anything more than .25mbps for several months now. It's very frustrating when I see with my own four eyes the 23 MBPS on SpeedTest.net my wife gets on her Verizon HTC Rezound (which she will be trading in for a GS3 in the next couple days :))

SPINT, IMHO, is the worst of the worst (from my experience) and I've been an on-time-never-late-or-behind paying customer for oh like 15 - 16 years. I know, they could (obviously) care less when I leave in Sept.

Perhaps try a Verizon prl and test it, see if its any better.
you can always go back to a Sprint prl.:)

Edit: too much data/roaming on Verizon prl with Sprint and a letter from Sprint may ensue. lol

Edit again: In fact, tomorrow night I will be rooting another company Evo4g just for this fact!!
Is it crazy---I cant wait!

Ok...BUT, I will need to go back to a Sense based ROM, which I'm not a big fan of!..:(

BUT...in the event I have some extra time to mess around with the phone, I may just do what you are suggesting. But my question is,,,if I were to switch back to a sence rom and do the Verizon PRL - could I go back to a AOSP rom and still maintain the same Verizon PRL? Or am I not understanding what the PRL is in the first place???

As always, Thanks for your help :)

You are correct about flashing a sense rom temporarily to get a new prl.
And yes it will follow you to an AOSP Rom...mine did.
If I ever want to get back my Sprint prl, I will have to flash a sense rom to update, then flash back to AOSP.:)

That's kinda what I thought.

How's the best way to go about getting the Verizon PRL and then applying it to my phone? Gotta link? :smokingsomb:

I've found that when on MikG3.11 I need not download the apk the site says to, and he can, since he is rooted, download the msl reader app, he need not call sprint to get msl code.
Also on MikG 3.11, the EPST file/app is there and simply follow step 3 once the desired prl is on sd card...in my case prl 00002.
I also noticed, and I have to dial the area code plus the phone number, even tho my phone is the same area code...but I don't mind.
If I forget to dial the area code, I get a recording from Verizon stating I need to dial the area code.:p

So I've been reading into rooting my phone and talking to a friend. My friend says after rooting the phone tends to slow way down. Is this a common problem or is this due to people trying to do too much and bogging down their system? Or why would this be happening?

Welcome to the Forums.
This is not a common problem at all. If you do everything correctly, and read, read ,read and ask, ask , ask, you will definitely speed up your phone, not to mention customize it to the max. Trust me, its fun.
The reason your friend told you that is possibly he had some issues with a rooted phone and got frustrated with it?
Yes it can backfire if some things are not done correctly but thats why this forum exists...to help people root and resolve issues.
So, personally, I would not hesitate to root. In fact, every phone I will ever get from here on out , I will root. No hesitation!:)
So, read, ask, and log on here my friend!:D

to add to what mikey said, when you root you have more ways to troubleshoot. when the phone starts to slow down all you have to do is wipe dalvik cache and cache in recovery and the phone should run like it used. i'm not expecting you to know what they are, but on a unrooted phone the only thing you could do is do a factory reset. but with that you will loose all your data. on a rooted phone you will not.

so....your friend should come here if he/she is having issues with their rooted phone.

rooting just opens up so many more possibilities that exists right now for your phone.

Hello Forum. Those of you running MikG 3.11, about two months ago the AdFree app was causing the problem. If you open it up and click on "Boot Normally" press Use Custom IP and input "BTC IP", then press Download & Install Hosts. This worked back then. Give a try.
