Trying to install app2sd, I performed all required steps, including formatting and partitioning my SD card.

Right after I typed in sh /sdcard/app2sd.sh I got the following error message:

mount: Invalid argument

The process continues but with a lot of out of memory errors and finally my phone needs te be restored in order to work properly.

Any idea why I get the error message? Did I fail to execute anything?

sorry to ask this question, i didn't catchup.
where should i put extracted xrecover file? in sdcard? and i dont have card reader... can i format sd in the phone? and make partition without remove it from my phone..

Hi
I have only one question: How to install x8 drivers?? I wnat to do it because superoneclick stopped on: Waiting For devieces

Thanks i found but error is not with this. I've got android 2.1 update 1. Does it work with update1? I downloaded newest version of program and it write Waiting for Devieces. What should i do?

Can your phone be seen by SE software? If yes, try closing it when you connect the phone. Otherwise, you maybe have wrong driver.

Android n00b here (though I've been a linux user for a few years so I'm familiar with command line stuff etc)

Tried to do something on my 2 day old x8 (think it was run titanium backup), and got told I needed root access, so I started googling, ended up here, and being a guy that fools around with computers (a lot), I got interested

Just tried to root the phone with superoneclick which reported that the phone was successfully rooted, well wasn't that simple I thought to myself

Restarted the phone thinking I was about to check out it's new capabilities ... except there weren't any

My first thought was that if it worked superuser would most likely be installed, it wasn't, nor could I find any shell/command prompt, which I kind of expected to be there as judging by the page linked to below amongst others, to make use of the rooted phone commands need to be typed:

http://androidforums.com/x8-all-things-root/243918-2-1-root-add-ons-d.html

After a good look around I concluded the rooting process hadn't worked after all

The only thing approaching an error I got whilst running superoneclick on it was that it couldn't automatically detect my android version, I confirmed that it was v2.1 or greater (it's reported as 2.1 update 1), and it finished the rest of the run without complaint, quicker and more seamlessly than I expected actually

Just about the only part of the process where I wasn't sure about what I was doing, was what to do about the 3-option menu that pops up on the phone when connecting it to the pc, I chose no option, just left it sitting there

I've now started pc companion's repair function on the phone, and after it's finished I'll retry rooting it, thinking it may be possible that something I'd done on the phone whilst exploring things and trying settings may have interfered with the process, perhaps whatever caused it to fail on detecting the version interfered with the rooting process

So while the repair's running I thought I'd ask ... am I doing the wrong thing by not choosing anything on the popup menu appearing on the phone when I connect it to the computer?

Looks like it worked this time, I now have superuser, can't find any shell/command prompt app though

I'm guessing I have to install one, is there a recommended one?

Secondly, to install App2sdI need to partition the sd card and whilst I've most likely made thousands of partitions, never really messed around with them on phone cards

Am I likely to cause any problems if I do it under linux with the existing partition unmounted whilst the card is still in the phone?

Well you did nothing wrong.. if it says successfully rooted than it must've worked.. try again and if you don't find superuser (which is very weird) download it from market
