Help [Support Q] Can I change people contacts from Phone to Gmail?

All of my contacts are currently tied to the "Phone" category. I'm interested in changing the category to "Gmail" to be able to sync my contacts back to Gmail.

Is there an option to change the category of my contact after the fact? I see that you select when inputting them but I imported my entire db and can seem to change them!

Yes, just long press the contact and hit edit, then change from phone to google. I dont know if there is an easy way to do this all at once, or if you have to do them one by one.

From within people.

Menu.settings.import export export to sd card

Now get that off your sd card and onto a desktop or laptop. Log into gmail. Click contacts on the left side of page and then import.

Its faster if you have multiple. And I have never been able to find the selection method in edit contact. Only time I see the pop up for google vs phone is when the contact is created

Unfortunately I have tried this but the option to change from "Phone" to something else does not present itself. I'm using an EVO on 2.2 BTW.

Can you do this on your phone?
