That is exactly what happened to me when I just did a sim swap. It also said I was using an unsupported device and all functions may not work properly.Mine is on Verizon, but, I didn't have to actually activate it, I just moved my SIM.
But, now when I log into http://verizonwireless.com it says it's a non-verizon phone, and no picture of it, instead of the M8 I had before.
Thanks for the advice. I did everything on lineI was afraid this was going to happen. Typical Verizon. Jerks.
@Suzi_Derkins, did you go to a corporate store or call? Do you have a SIM that fits from you previous active phone? They can, will and have to activate it. Keep calling, or don't leave the store until they get it done. They can use a display model to activate it and then change the SIM back to your phone. That's what they ended up doing for a LOT of N6's. They were just all proud of themselves for announcing they were all set to activate the Pure and there would be no trouble. Jerks.
@cybercruiser, what type of plan do you have? One of the new ones or an older Share Everything? Does your line discount still show on your account? Keep an eye on that (if you have one). Jerks.
I'm not online with the new Moto X Pure. Verizon still doesn't recognize the IMEI. Should I just do the SIM swap and ignore that Verizon claims to not support it?OK, yeah, you should be fine then.
On the SE plans (old) there is a line discount if you are off contract (I get $25/line off). When Verizon was not playing nice with the Nexus 6 activations folks were not getting that discount. I just wanted to let you know to look out for it if it applied to you.
The new plans should not be an issue, they all get the $20 line charge, regardless.

I have a friend that's with the FCC, he says that IMEI numbers must go out to all carriers in the USA without fail, no matter what brand, type, model of phone. So Verizon will most certainly have, or be receiving those numbers. Accordingly, he said that Motorola in particular are very fast and good with compliance.I'm not online with the new Moto X Pure.
