swap sim card

When you go get a new SIM and have them set it up on your old X. After that's done put it in the new X. It isn't going to be recognized but it should work. You should be able to use the phone.

They won't/can't/don't know how to activate them directly but changing SIM's should absolutely work. So, get a new one for the old and start again.

edit: Just for giggles, do a factory reset on the new X and then try it with your SIM again. I have no idea what's going on but, as I said before, something is wrong somewhere. It probably will zero effect but may be worth a shot. Oh. I don't know.

What do you mean cutting down? Were you using a bigger SIM? The one I have fits in the SIM try for the Pure fine.
Yeah, my LG G2 had a micro Sim, so I had to cut it down to fit the nano Sim slot.

This may be a stupid question, but I almost did it, but you have it in the Sim spot and not the microsd spot, right? I just know I almost stuck it in the wrong spot...

Ugh. I will be making the identical transition that Suzi made: swapping my SIM card from my 2014 Moto X to my 2015 Moto X Pure (when it arrives from Motorola). I hope I don't have to go to the VZW store as well. Have others made this identical transition (Moto X 2014 --> Moto X 2015) on Verizon without the same issues Suzi had?

Yeah, maybe it won't matter by the time I get mine. I ordered it on Sept. 6th, with "Est. Delivery Friday, 09/18/15," but as of today (09/17) it's still showing "Device being built" when I check the order status.

I just chatted with Motorola: they are not out of parts, but they were overwhelmed by the demand for the device. Mine still shows a "being built" status and I ordered mine on the 3rd. September 24 seems a long way off, but I guess it's only next week...

Well. I just got off the phone with my local Best Buy. Oh dear.

They show as having the 16GB available in store on the website. I called to see if they did indeed have them and asked if there was a demo to see. I was transferred twice and was told, in no specific order that:

They don't carry that phone, nor will they
They don't have any in stock, nor will they as they don't carry them
They don't sell unlocked phones in the store, you have to sign a contract. You can order one online only
They have at least 5 in stock but no one can find them.
They won't have a display model because they ^^^^^all of that
They'd be happy to order me one and I can pick it up in store later today, but maybe not the 32GB, they don't think they will carry that anywhere

Not sure I want to waste my time going to see what the deal is today. Ugh.
