Root Swiftkey X force close under Velocity 1.1

dautley

Android Expert
Anyone try the latest update of Swiftkey X with Velocity 1.1? I'm getting forced closed errors as soon as I try to use it.

i get it when try to use the Learn From feature

i works good for me but i think im going back to velocity 1.0 tomorrow

mine has been installed on internal memory since downloading it and it sets up fine, but as soon as i go to anything that requires text entry, the keyboard won't show up and SwiftKey crashes immediately. and repeatedly. very irritating.

I fixed the problem
just move it to internal memory
its only 5mb

I moved mine to internal memory, still FC's
It seems more and more apps aren't working on Velocity. I'm about ready to go to 2.2.2 rooted and some memory management and tethering apps from the market.

I got Swiftkey X from the Amazon App Store today for free and I have the same problem with Force Closes. It set to Internal Memory but still FCs. I am in no way bashing Velocity 1.1. I would rather stick with my Gingerbread keyboard than lose Velocity. Just wondering if anyone has found a fix and if there's anything I can do to help with a fix like submitting a logcat. Not sure exactly how to do that but I can learn :-)

Is there a way to get the Velocity Toolbox, and a davlik-to-cache or whatever to work on 2.2.2 stock/rooted? the space savings is one of the best things of vel1.1 for me. setcpu can over clock. basically use stock so apps work but get a similar performance boost.

velocity 1.1 really does make the ally a decent phone especially for a free (got paid for it by costco) phone. but it would be nice if velocity 1.2 fixed these problems with apps breaking. of course, even stock can break apps, like VZC i think it was broke a number of my apps.

dautley, did you pull the trigger? i'm trying to decide if it is worth it or not. i've got 7 months left until my big discount on an upgrade. not sure which brain i want my phone to have for that period.

if i'm running vel1.1, which is based on 2.2.1, can i flash the 2.2.2 stock rooted zip? or do i need to do 2.2.1 and then download the update correctly?

You should be able to use the nandroid, that way you will still have Amon Ra recovery if you want to go back. Just be sure to wipe Dalvik Cache and all data if you decide to flash it, and be sure to make a Nandroid of your phone as it is now so you can easily go back to it if you want.
For now I'm staying with Velocity as it offers many advantages over stock. I went back to Maps 5.5.0 and Swift Key 1.1.91.
When the new Market finally updates itself I'll probably go back to 2.2.2 if I start getting FC's from it because the Market will always update to the latest version every time you run it.

yea good call, i am in agreement. i love swype which is what i use but i have swiftkey just in case... there are other apps that don't seem to behave well either though.
