Root Switching between old system and new ROM

I recently rooted and flashed the GSB rom. I was wondering if there was a way to move between my old system(android 2.1) and the rom I flashed? I figured you would be able to with recovery by making backups and booting into them but I just backed up my current ROM and i think it overwrote my android 2.1 backup. Does anyone know the correct way to do this? Do i have to download a 2.1 and just run that?

ninjasenses,

So, you didn't make a Nandroid backup right after rooting (but before flashing a custom ROM)? If you did (and still have it), you should simply be able to do a Nandroid restore of that to switch back to your stock 2.1 O/S.

Your typical modus-operendi would be to (before doing anything "scary" or risky on your phone):

- make sure your phone is fully charged
- boot into recovery and make a Nandroid backup
- do your scary stuff
- restore from your Nandroid backup if above scary stuff didn't work out ;) :p

If you want to go back to stock while keeping your current Amon_RA custom recovery (so you can still do root-powered ROM flashing), you can flash eu1's March 2011 stock ROM ([ROM] HTC Eris March 2011 OTA Stock ROM - v2.41.605.6 - xda-developers) just like any other ROM.

If you do this, here's your steps:

1. Fully charge your phone (leave it plugged-in and charging if possible)
2. Download and install the March 2011 stock ROM to your /sdcard
3. Boot into custom recovery
4. Make a Nandroid backup of your current state
5. Do your wipes (Wipe Data/Factory reset, Wipe Dalvik-cache)
6. Flash the new ROM
7. Reboot

After rebooting and enjoying your stock 2.1 for a while, boot back into recovery and take a Nandroid backup of that ROM. You would simply do a Nandroid restore whenever you want to return to the prior ROM. Its a whole phone snapshot at the time you take the backup, so you'll return the phone back to the exact state that it was in when you did the backup after restoring it.

Cheers!

P.S., you can rename your "BDS-ccyymmdd-hhmm" directory that is in your /sdcard/nandroid/HTxxxxxxxx folder to something slightly more meaningful. Just be careful to avoid using spaces or special characters other than dashes and underscores.
