Switching to Verizon

Wbsonic

Lurker
So im switching to verizon and im looking at two phones in particular, the DX and the Samsung Fascinate, im leaning torwards the Samsung Fascinate but can anyone give me the pros and cons of the Samsung Fasciante so i know what to expect (good and bad) thanks guys

Out the box the X is a little better. But, if you are going to root, I would go for the Fascinate.

personally i feel (and this is just my opinion of course) if you are in the root crowd...supporting motorola is the worst thing you can do....it basically grants your support to their bootloader lock

but that aside....the x and inc are better out of the box experiences...and any of the soon too launch 4g phones would be too

if you plan to root, and significantly customize your device then the fascinate would be a good choice...assuming you could get it fairly cheap and on a 1 year contract (or ideally ebay/craigslist)

what does rooting do that makes the fascinate better?

rooting in and of itself just grants you access to certain files and apps that you would not otherwise have permission to use/access

its the installing of custom kernels and roms and modifications (like reboot options for example) that really take your phone to the next level

however its not something to be taken lightly and a good deal of reading/research ahead of time is always your best course of action

Buy it on Craigslist. I got mine for $300 a month and a half after it came out. I will never have a contract again.

unless you really need to switch today or before march i would say wait..the new 4G phones will be out in 2 months or so. so i say why drop $199.99 on a DX or a SF when you drop the same on a new 4G phone and if you dont want a 4G then at least by then the prices will have dropped on both those phones.

+1. I would definitely wait to get a 4G if you can.

The poster above (sreymj) is right in that in that there is never a great time to buy an Andrtoid phone, since the pace of innovation seems amazing. There's constant buyer remorse.

That said, this does seem a particularly bad time to buy. Most of the new phones due soon have dual-core Tegra 2 chips, many have front-facing cameras (not important to all), just about all are 4G, some(but not all) that have 4G can surf and talk concurrently in 4G areas. NONE of that is available now on VZW, but all of it will be in 60 days or so. Lastly the 4G HTC Thunderbolt will be out in February perhaps too...

Yeah the more you can wait the better there is always something better coming down the pike
