Swype avail for Eris

Thanks. But I think I will just stay with what I got. Not giving me any errors so far, so why change if it aint broke.

I usually agree but in this case I want the new version that is built specifically for the Hero screen size (not droid) which gives slightly larger keys as well as getting rid of the battery drain (which was very pronounced on my phone). There are apparently other fixes/tweaks to it is well. The 12MB installed size is a killer though.

The 7MB one is just that I thought. The 2MB one was ported for HVGA screens.

I am liking the 7Mb version a little better than the 2Mb so far. The keyboard has more options although I really do not need the multi language files.

How would one go about converting the 7M file to 3Ms? Convert the apk to zip, strip out the language files and other keyboards--that much I have figured out. But then what?

i dont think you can just decompile an apk by converting to zip and extracting....i would be happy to be wrong about that though.

If you go back to the link that was posted a little further up, and then work your way down the referenced thread, you should be able to find a download link that still works.

The Swype keyboard doesnt seem to save the words i tap into it. it remembers it throughout the rest of that text, but once i sleep the phone and then unlock it, it forgets that word.

Is there something else I need to do?

Dido, I'm having the same issue. Also, when I double tap a word the word menu does more show up.

No one else is getting Unable to Parse installer package when trying to use the .apk for the 7mb Swype?

Two different Eris's and two different SD cards, from multiple internet download locations, I get this same error.

Out of curiosity, which version of the download are you guys using? I've had no problems at all with the original version.

(Except it just thought the word "download" was "swiss." Sometimes it's guesses are so weird ...)

7-zip will open up APK files. I'm pretty sure they are just gzip files but they may be tar'd first. Either way 7-zip and winrar can open them up

I'm about to become converted from a long time WinMO user. My current phone (until FedEx gets here with my Eris in the morning) is a Samsung Omnia running a cooked ROM with WinMo 6.5.3 and the Swype keyboard ported from the Omnia 2. I've been using Swype since a few weeks after it debuted in the Omnia2 and the fantastic folks over at XDA lifted it. That was one thing that was keeping me from moving to the droid. I'd tried the other swiping keyboards available in the market on my wife's Eris, and while "ok" they were not as good. But when I read this thread, I made the leap. I hope the learning curve isn't too steep, I've been using Windows Mobile since before it was Windows CE so I'm used to it and it's problems.

Trying the 7MB version now. It seems to be working.

* You have to uninstall the old version first. Astro seems to work better than Settings> Manage applications.

How can you tell the version number you have?

I looked under the settings/applications/manage applications but it doesn't show version. I installed the 7.44 MB size file and it works great. Just wondering if there are differing versions of the 7 meg file.

Settings>locale & text>swype>about

That's off the top of my head, but should be correct.

If my memory serves me correct, the version numbers will be the same. Dont quote me on that but I remember reading that on XDA I believe.
