Help Swype on ICS

I have just installed the Wanamlite ROM of ICS on my S2, but cannot seem to enable the sywpe function. Has this been removed?

Can someone please tell me how to get this function back?

Thanks.

My advice would be to download swype through the play store and then back it up using titanium so you can restore it along with all your other stuff. That way you'll always have it no matter what rom you're on :D

Thanks.

Which version of swype should I install from the store? Can you install the one that is stock on the phone before flashing?

As far as I know, you cannot get Swype from Google Play. You have to get it from Swype directly.

Does anyone know what will happen when phones with built-in Swype (like the Galaxy SII) get ICS? Will it include a built-in Swype?

I'm not aware of the GS2 coming with Swype at all I'm afraid my good mate. Swype is a 3rd party software, unaffiliated with any brand. If Samsung were to use it in their stock firmware, it would essentially make it only available to Samsung phones (ie it wouldn't be free to download for other phones like it currently is). That's my logic and I'm sticking to it :D Someone more knowledgeable can probably refute this if it's wrong though :)

I think I answered both questions but to clarify, it doesn't look likely that any official Samsung firmware in the future will come with Swype. You'll have to either download and install it yourself, or use a custom ROM that has it built-in.

Really? It's a stock app on UK S2s.

Plenty of manufacturers have licensed Swype for various devices. In fact that's the only way to get a release (non-beta) version as Swype isn't a retail product, available to end users.

The official O2-UK version of ICS comes with Swype pre-installed. It is a newer version than the one in 2.3.5 (with a new button layout, which takes a bit of getting used to, but seems a bit more logical).

Is there anyway that I can get the .apk file for the O2 version of swype? I backed up the old version from Gingerbread using titanium and reinstalled it on ICS, but it kept crashing. I think the O2 version would world great if it is a later version of swype.

Nope. Not legally, at least. In order to get Swype you either need to reflash your phone with the stock O2 rom or use a custom rom and get the beta version from the Swype website.

That's what I get for living in Australia :)

Hmm, I can't remember how I got swype then. That's probably a good thing, since I likely got it in a less-than-legal manner >.> <.<. Luckily I deleted it a while ago because I enjoy Swiftkey a lot more.

Edit: Oh wait, I got it with a custom rom! :D

Hey, guys. I received the ICS upgrade for my SGSII 2 days ago and at first couldn't find the swype possibility anymore to enter my text messages.
After some further investigation, I just found out that swype is still there, but you have to activate it yourself by :
go to settings, in the personal section : language and input (or something similar as my sgsII is not configured in english).
in the section keyboards and input method (again the exact title may be a bit different) you click on "standard". You can choose here between "samsung keyboard" (default setting) or "Swype".
Now try to type a text message. You should be able to swype it.

Good luck !
Hope it works for you too !

Yep that works if you have it pre-installed on your phone, but some phones do not (like australian ones), so you need to either download an official firmware from a country which provides Swype, or use a custom rom. If you're into custom roms, Omega rom comes with Swype.

You can even try to register for Swype beta and download from the link they give you. I remember having updated my Swype that way initially

IN Galaxy S2 with the new ICS firmware the way of shifting keyboard has changed. TO use the SWYPE first make sure that you have enabled the swype in main settings - Language & Input. then go to the typing pad hold the setting icon on the botton right of the keyboard for 2 seconds & you will find the option to switch the keyboard.

Hope this will help
