Help Swype safe?

You know...the warnings about entering personal information in text/email and it uploads to the Swype servers at night while you are sleeping.

Has anyone heard about the Iphone problem? There's an app that does the same thing, loads all picture messages to a server. Someone hacked the server, and oops, your wife/gf's nakey pictures everywhere!!!

Be careful guys.

Swype is a legitimate (and very public) company.

I wouldn't worry for a second about them using the app as a trojan to pilfer info.

That being said, using a hacked apk downloaded from who-knows-where could be cause for worry.

I am not a believer in keeping "sensitive" info on any non-encrypted device, so my worry level is not high either way.

Just FYI, the app for Apple was one of the most popular ones for picture messaging, since I guess it doesn't come on the phone. All it took was a single leak and tons of people using it lost their VERY personal pictures.

I'm not paranoid, and I wouldn't cease from something great because of a breach in another program like that, I'm just saying keep that in mind, that if your personal stuff is being stored somewhere, there's always the chance that it could get out. Iphone users didn't have much of a choice, as I don't believe they could send the messages on the stock phone, but we can, so consider the pros and cons of using another program for that purpose. That's all.

I guess I don't see the connection between an app that uploads data to a server and a keyboard replacement app.

The swype app does not send any information to any place in the cloud and does not store passwords etc.

If the apk got hacked and it was being used as a keylogger, then that would be a very different issue than the one you are talking about with the iPhone.

I see what you're saying, you're right. I didn't read the full warning, because I don't have swype, but I wasn't sure if it changed the messenger service at all, or if it was literally just an additional keyboard. If it's really just the keyboard, the most someone could see if they hack it is the sexting that I do constantly!!! :p:eek:
