Swyped...

SWYPE for me runs great on Froyo 2.2 with one exception.

It does has to be restarted everytime I reboot.

Using verison 2.4.44.10912.t100

Does anyone find it odd that this forum is shut tighter than Fort Knox when it comes to the latest Swype link, but CNET is basically begging you on their home page today to install the latest link to your Android phone? They give you the link and even walk you through the whole process with a video. Weird...

Oh, and BTW, no reboot issues with this one for me at all....

I used to rave about Swype when I first installed it. As time went on though, I found it just a bit too tedious when it would guess incorrectly to one of my swypes and then I'd have to take time correcting the mistakes. On top of that, words get added to the dictionary too easily, but removal isn't quite as smooth.

I've settled with the Droid 2 keyboard. it's fast, it types what I want, and the word choices don't force me to add a word the dictionary.

Still waiting for Blindtype just to see how well it really works.

Ha... Ha... I completely agree. Everyone is so touchy about Swype and posting the APK file, and yet CNET has it as one of their top stories with step by step instructions on how to add it to your phone. I'm running the same build they link to on CNET with absolutely no problems. Go get it folks.

You're upset because your pirated software has expired? A bit nervy, don't you think?

First of all, I am not supset because of that....I would pay for....but I can't seem to find a paid version....do you know where it is??? I've been using it since July...you knida get used to it....AGAIN, I WOULD PAY FOR IT!!!!

Not really - this is just a mom and pop forum. One guy owns it. CNet is basically a corporation.

The owner received an e-mail from Swype lawyers threatening sites who distribute it.

He clearly doesn't want any run ins with the law on his up and coming website so he has told his minions to monitor Swype activity very strictly.

Anyways, it's not hard to find on the interwebs. I have the full version and it's awwesssome. No I won't give it to you! Find it on your own! ;)

ok..just trying ultra kb. how come i have two letters for each box. how do i get this in normal qwerty keyboard?

edit: nm..found it. let me try this out for a couple of days.

can we customize the color of the trace? i can't seem to find it.

Downloaded ultra keyboard....love it so far!!
Swype is so stupid to not sell it!!!! Done with them!!!!
Thanks everyone for the tips!!!

I must have missed something. Didn't see that anyone asked you for it....

I was predicting the future.. usually when you say you have it people will ask for it. So I was clarifying I wouldn't be distributing it even though I have the full version

I agree. Whoever runs Swype is (business) simple. Sure they know how to create a good program but their execution and capitalization on making a profit is awful.

Instead they just drove everyone away or caused them to obtain it 'illegally'.

Their loss.

When you said "full version" is that just a working one or the final one, like where you can double tap to edit a word?

Or they're targeting the OEM market, and don't want to shoot themselves in the foot. Swype preinstalled is alot less of a selling point if you can just get it from the market.

As mentioned, I would go with Ultra Keyboard. Well worth the $2.79 or whatever. Turn on "tracing" in the settings and it works just like Swype, except with a ton of customizations and settings.

I found ultra to be very inaccurate...one text I had to completely retype the entire thing...thank god I didn't buy it

This is an awesome forum! Thanks for all the help in allowing me to find the new Swype .apk file. After the last .apk file expired, I started to use Shapewriter. It is okay but I was already hooked on Swype.

I bought Ultra Keyboard also. I got in on the closed beta for Swype but got tired of all the betas expiring and no VTT.

i think the VTT was the biggest turn off for Swype. One of the most powerful features on the phone and they kill the use of it. Ultra works pretty good if you go a little slower

It only takes 2 strokes to switch to regular input if you want to use voice method instead but it would be nice if Swype had voice input.

I'm not sure actually. When I double tap a word it's highlighted so that I can edit it though.

I might have spoken too soon. I thought it was the full version since the file is 15 MB and previous versions I've downloaded were smaller so I could be totally wrong.

It works really well though and I don't get the bug that people are getting where it resets to regular input after you reboot your phone.

i know it dosnt take much, but by that time i can already swype out what i wanted to say anyway :p

lol true. I'm much faster now. I sucked at the regular keyboard but now I'm a pro.

There isn't even a learning curve. I'm like perfect at it right off the bat.

It's always frustrating since I can type really really fast on a normal keyboard so this helps ease that a bit.

SlideIt is faster and more responsive than Swype. The preview pane above the keyboard is neat. The fact you can switch to ABC mode is great too. But it is less accurate, inserting symbols is really difficult and doing things like writing email addresses is a pain.
