How To Sync Outlook Contacts & Calendar to Google

If you are having problems getting your calendar items from your phone to sync with outlook using google calendar sync make sure that you save your appointments on your phone to your google calendar and not "my calendar" which is where android will try to save the appointments by default. Also you need to make sure background data is enabled and sync is enabled for your google account and google calendar.

At this point I think most users are just looking for ANY possible way of actually syncing their google contacts with outlook. As far as googels motivations for not providing such support we can only speculate. But when one considers that pretty much every other smartphone/PDA can do this even the iphone which is considered to be a non-business phone, it seems that this is no mere oversight and is well within their capabilities. I speculate that they are hoping that by not providing the support they will be able to influence people away from relying on outlook so much as way of storing their personal contacts, and try moving more of their contact information to the cloud and thus into googles area of operation. This may even be a weak stab at Office in general, whatever their motivations we can be assured they are intentional, as this is something google could do if it wanted to.
 
I've been struggling with this since I changed to Android from Windows Mobile. What works for me is Google Calendar Sync and MyPhoneExplorer for contacts. MPE works really well for me and of course is free or more accurately donate ware. The authors forum gets quick responses so I'd recommend it.
 
Another possibility which I haven't tried is to use HamsterSync which appears to be a contacts version of Google Calendar Sync.
 
Easy solution - download the Kies software from Samsung, close Outlook, and sync to your heart's content!!
 
DRCS - when you say CLOSE outlook...you mean don't use it at all?
The main issue with Kies, even though it says it syncs with outlook is that there it takes everything from outlook (different categories) and puts it onto one main Kies calendar. That doesn't work for me.
 
I am tied to Outlook for my business. I think Google is missing the boat and pissing off people by not offering the Outlook sync capabilities. The Droid phones are awesome, but if the business world can't get them to function correctly to meet our needs, what good are they? I love my phone (Droid X) but honestly, I'm about to give up and just go by another Blackberry. Not worth all the headache and hassle. The easiest way to convince Google to make the sync software is to not support them as they are.

That being said... I did have the MarkSpace Missing Sync program and now am trying ChampionLink. At least they offer a 15 day free trial. Honestly, after my problems with Missing Sync I was about to just give up. It didn't work at all. Contacts rarely sync'd, even when it said it did. Calendar items didn't show up both on computer and on phone. Tried to get technical support (that I paid extra for) without success. No person to speak to. Their advice - delete calendar & contact entries and re-enter until you find the corrupted file. REALLY? I have over 1000 contacts alone. No time for that. Only good thing was the refund they promised me. Hope it comes.

ChampanionLink seems to be working. Don't like to have to go through Google thogh. Does anyone know a way around this? Also, contacts don't show up in the main phone contact section. This is frustrating for text messages sent or received. They are not associated with a contact name. At least I have access to my information now though. They sync seems to be working both ways. I enter information in my computer and phone about equally. No missing data so far in either place. Have had it for almost a week.
 
In general, just long-tap on a contact and you'll get a Delete option. I think for Twitter (and Facebook?) contacts you may need to remove the contact from within the respective apps.
 
Does anyone have a feel for when Kies will be approved for use in USA and when it will recognize the Samsung Captivate?? I have synched my contact using the Google software, but haven't been successful with my Calendar. Surely something as popular as this will get fixed soon???

When I first ran it I purged & replaced my contacts in Gmail with my Outlook contacts. Worked great. I then added photos to some contacts in Gmail & then changed a phone number in Outlook & re-synced (note the 'purge' option had automatically been deselected - which is good) and it worked fine & was fairly quick. Note - the initial photos in Outlook were not copied to Gmail.

Lastly, was delighted to see they offered a free 14 day trial as this is the cooling off period I have with my Galaxy S & I fully intended to return it if I could not sync both ways between Outlook & my Android phone.

I had a heck of a time with Companionlink. The first sync went great. Then for some reason, all 800+ contacts were removed from my droid. Thank God all of my contacts in Outlook 2007 were still there. I've tried and tried and for some reason, my contacts will not remain in my Droid. I'm using a Samsung Transform and I love the phone but not being able to keep my contacts in sync is VERY DISAPPOINTING. I use a Dell Axim X51v for my business and ActiveSync works great keeping that device in tune 100% of the time. I don't know what's so difficult with the same type of application for the Droid OS which is by far more advanced than windows mobile. :confused:
 
If you are just looking to sync outlook calendar and contacts, android manager worked pretty well for me. I used it for about a week. It has wireless sync, not sure about usb, but don't think so. It's free so I overlooked little stuff.
I did however uninstall it because:
1. I wanted to sync notes and tasks without having to use 2 or 3 apps.
2. I wanted hands off sync. Manager would connect just fine, but because they are using the wrong call command for outlook, you will get a popup on outlook asking for permission to allow manager to access your info every time, and then after it checks for the changes, you have to approve the changes it will make.
Otherwise it was a useful app for free.
Going to give companion link a try and see how it goes.

I just moved from Palm TX to Android HTC Desire HD. My problem is, I guess, standard and current "how do I go to move calendar, contacts and notes from my old TX to my new toy?" I have tried several tacks and wasted lots of time to no avail until I stumbled to sound advice given on 1/7/10 by Dixon Woodbury on Google support

Says Dixon: ........ finally I found a simple way to get this to go. I learned that the Palm sync program ..... has an option to sync to Outlook ........ I did this and behold, my outlook calendar filled up with my Palm calendar ............). Then I used the Google tool to sync Outlook with Google ....... It was then a long wait (10s of minutes) for my Google calendar to fill with the Outlook entries. After another wait, all of the entries appeared on my Droid ........etc. etc.. (thanks Dixon)

Simple but I've got problems; one of the reason why I switched to Android is the lousy job that Palm has done moving up from release 4 to release 6 which is mandatory to sync with Windows 7 (64 bits)
Finally I'm getting there:
Syncing with Palm release 6 to Windows 7 I moved Tasks and Notes but nothing else
Syncing with Palm release 4 to Windows XP I moved Tasks, Notes and Contacts but no Calendar

Has anyone any idea of where did I go wrong? What should be done to fix things and, that's the goal, move Palm TX data to Android?

I suggest :

1. Sync your Palm with Outlook first
2. Install FJ Software Development and sync your Outlook with your Android phone
 
Hi,

I'm considering upgrading my mobile phone(s). Currently i use 2 phones mainly because of 2 contact folders in outlook, one for personal and one for company contacts respectively. By having separate phones I can have separate contact folders in outlook for personal and company contacts and these synchronise seamlessly & independently using nokias PC synching software.

My query relates to upgrading to integrate all my existing services either onto

- the current Nokia E-71 (CAN IT SUPPORT 2 Contact folders?)
-a new Apple iPhone
-a new HTC Desire (android)
-a new HTC Windows 7 phone
-a new Samsung i9000 (android)

My question is which if any of these platforms will support both synchronisation with separate and distinct contact databases in outlook? And what apps or extra software do I need to carry this out?

Is there any new information on Sync'ing Outlook Calendar/Contact with Captivate...the last information I see is over a year old...

Hello, I have been using CompanionLink to sync my contacts & calendar in my droid with Microsoft Outlook Business and Google. I have recently noticed that phone numbers and address from some contacts are being added to other unrelated existing contacts, have you experienced this? Any suggestions?
 
hey all i have been reading over this post and have tried this program http://www.android-sync.com/.it worked great at first it double all my contacts but i easily deleted them. didnt try this as a freah phone so thats the prob im sure. it give u the option to sync both ways or1 way. it setup just fine with no probs on my pc and found my samsung mesmerize right off. will be trying it out for a while. its not something i use everyday but did not want tto use google, uses usb and thats fine with me,only does contacts and calander and thats all i need. hope it works for u. ps thanks Emperor Crusher for that great link would not have found this program if not for you. i to have just gottrn rid of my wm6.5 piece of junk and am loving my new andriod. hope this helps out.
