Short version of what I'm trying to do is get a copy of the entire system, install an app, then copy the system again so I can compare what has been changed..

Don't need a complete how to on it.. just pointed in the right direction..

You can always use Android Commander do maybe help with copying.

If you have adb set up:

adb pull /system

That program is awesome.. I used to use droid explorer with my ascend but for the life of me haven't been able to get it to install on this dinosaur computer I'm temporarily stuck with..

Commander is amazing. I couldn't tweak my phone without it. It makes life so much easier.
