Root System R/W and R/O script

Fabolous

Superuser
I've modified Pete's sys script to run on the Droid X. Basically, if you install this, you have a very easy way to mount /system as r/w and r/o, and can forgo the extremely long command line to do it.

Credit to Pete for the original script.

Installation

-Download the attached file, and put in on your sdcard
-Fire up adb or terminal emulator
-Do the following code:

Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/sys /system/xbin/
chmod 755 /system/xbin/sys
sync
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

That will install the script which basically runs the two commands you typed up above.

How to use the script

Whenever you need to mount your system as r/w, fire up adb or terminal emulator:

Code:
su
sys -rw
.
.
go about your business
.
.
sys -ro

Download
sys

Fab,

Thanks for the script...

Just thought I'd chime-in with something too... I just pushed the sys.txt file over to my phone with:

adb push sys.txt /sdcard/sysmount.txt

Then, when I want to use it, I just type:

$ su
# sh /sdcard/sysmount.txt -rw
sh /sdcard/sysmount.txt -rw
System Mounted Read Write

Works great this way too! (your install is clearly much simpler, but I didn't want to install more than I had to ;)).

Cheers!

thanks fab. i pushed it over to my dropbox so i'll have it on the ready whenever i need it after a rom flash.
