Root System update

Well, you can try. I don't see the harm in it, personally...

Like ramjet said, the 0108 and other digits are the date it was compiled I believe.

I have not done s-off yet, reading ramjets earlier post I know to not take this update for now. I am rooted however. My wife's is pure stock. So, for now on my phone, I would lock, RUU, so on using remanifest guide for instance. At what point would this get flashed? Or is it better to wait for now, since I am kind if new with this phone.
As for my wife, she could care less as long as her phone still works and I don't go on and on about phones and updates. So, should be OK for hers, as long as s-off isn't in the near future?

I will be updating my guide with this update as soon as I'm satisfied with its performance (probably a day at most), so nothing will change in the guide except for the file that you flash (there will be a link to it).

The update will be fine to take on your wife's phone as well, as long as you & she are sure you don't want S-OFF on that phone. To be honest the S-OFF procedure will probably work fine after you've taken the OTAs, but if you don't follow unlimited.io's guidelines, they won't help you. Their "help" is not so helpful nowadays anyway, though.

There is no advantage (noticed yet) to this update

Maybe Prinny will report in a couple days that he hasn't charged his phone in 40 hours or something......then I think everyone would update, but til then I see no reason to go out of your way to update.

40 hours? Man I wish...

Really, the only advantage is the radio and pri I think...the rest I have not noticed anything significant. If your phone works, its optional to take it.

As the saying goes, if it ain't broke....

Main reason I did the ruu was I had erased a lot of stuff I shouldn't have, and figured since I was stock...why not ota?

I'm sure they will be someone soon who will want to get S-OFF via the wire trick and has already taken the second OTA and then rooted. The first thing to try would be flashing a stock ROM and if that doesn't work downgrade the recovery to stock.

If none of that works I suppose someone could to go to the #juopuntbear IRC channel and ask what the options are, but I'm not going to volunteer for that. ;)

Let's hope an updated RUU becomes available soon and all of this will be moot.

I'm glad someone did so we can tell for sure what it does.

Ramjet, can I flash this running G60's new rom? Don't want to mess any thing up.S-OFF naturally. Regardless I'm gonna wait for everyone's opinion if it is even worth it. Thankyou.:)

I was bored so I felt like going ahead and getting the full update....

Started S-Off and unlocked and rooted.

Follow standard RUU procedure, lock bootloader, install RUU.

Installed the OTA small update, then the current one here and the voicemail update.

Re-unlocked bootloader with my previously saved .bin key file from HTC (you don't need a new one).

Re-installed TWRP via fastboot.

Re-installed superuser via TWRP. (Superuser and TWRP were the same files I used in previous install before this update).

(phone resets to initial settings and setup on boot due to unlocking the bootloader)

Go to play store and search for "Superuser" and update it (it will not find it automatically, you have to search and go to the app on the play store).

Now the easiest way to get apps back on the phone is to use a PC to go to the Play Store and got to "My Android Apps" which has everything you installed previously, just browse through and click on install for anything you want back on the phone... The Play store will send it to your phone automatically.

So far I have tested root, superuser, wifi tether for root users.... no problems and everything works.

I tried the partial file for S-Off and it seemed to install but my files did not update to the correct versions and things like the address bar in the default browser were not fixed, they ARE correct numbers and fixed browser bar after this process. That leads me to think there is far more going on than just a few firmware updates.

Yea, assuming you are talking about the firmware only file, that should be fine. I don't anticipate any problems with the updated firmware but you can always revert by flashing one of joe_blow's all-in-one files (4EXT or TWRP version).

If you are referring to the firmware only file that I linked it won't change anything in the stock ROM. If you plan to use the stock ROM it's best to take the complete OTA, as you discovered.

One thing that will be interesting is if the ROM's that are mostly stock such as Harmonia will be updated with this OTA since it not only includes patches but replacement modules for some framework and other system files which is probably how you got the fix for the address bar in the browser.

Odd thing is that this radio seems to be slightly slower.

The one I was on previously would play YouTube and such with very minimal to no buffering.

This one buffers more. And its the same video, and I'm in the exact same spot as last time. (How's that for precision?)

Any other thoughts folks?

Are you still on the stock ROM? Was your previous YouTube test also run on the stock ROM?

Could be a variation in YouTube load, but not likely. Did you run SpeedTest before you took the latest OTA update?

Same rom, yes. Speed test yes. I haven't done it on the new radio, but I averaged 800kb/s out of three runs. Not stock Rom anymore, but one of d3rps.

I'm thinking it just could be a hiccup in network traffic, due to the ota being pushed out.

It would be really nice if someone who is S-OFF with 4G access and wants to play with the new OTA would do following:

1. Flash the RUU
2. Run Speedtest for 3G and 4G at least three times each
3. Flash the November OTA
4. Run Speedtest for 3G and 4G at least three times each
5. Flash the March OTA
6. Run Speedtest for 3G and 4G at least three times each

This would give us some really good data to evaluate the performance of the RUU versus the OTA's. I would do it myself but can't flash Virgin Mobile firmware on my Evo 3D without messing it up, and the OTA update for Sprint hasn't been released yet.

Sooooooo.. How would this work. Would you be applying two OTA'S. Or does this new one override it?
Am I downloading two files

I am getting noticeably better reception in my house. Speeds remain on par with the 1.09.00.0706 radio. My guide has been updated to include this firmware. It was merged with the firmware from the old 1.14 OTA, so that anything updated in the old firmware update is not "lost" here. Tested and flashed successfully via fastboot, with everything working beautifully.

I could do this with 4G, but 3G service is terrible (doesn't exist) on the RUU for me. Not sure about 4G either, but it may work. However, the speeds between the latest update and the last OTA are on par for me - variability is within a standard normal curve for sure.

My speed tests are horrible compared to the other night, but they always fluctuate wildly here.

Subjectively, running the browser, Youtube and loading large pics/gifs it seems to make a connection and stream data much more smoothly than before. Previous to the update this phone has always loaded in bursts/pauses for me. Now it starts loading and continues to do load even when I drop to no bars.

I so far have noticed 2 differences in previously existing software.

1) The browser not auto selects the entire URL link when you click it and will allow you to simply delete it like pretty much every other normal browser in existence does, thank goodness. Looks like there is also some extra flash setting that I dont recall being there before, but I could be making that part up.

2) I swear the message app works notably faster now, I have my texts set to not delete automatically and when I hit the back button now the app does not lag like it did after sending a text and hitting back to the 'main' part of the app that shows your lists of conversations. It also used to show a graphical hiccup for a moment while lagging and that no longer occurs since this update. It now transitions smooth for me and loads quicker.
