Root System update

I aint worried about it messing my phone up.. Im just worried about Virgin giving me crappier service than I already have .
 
Lmao, thanks for this thread, time is passing much happier at work right now.

The ConnectionOptimizer can be disabled, no problem, if any other plusses are found in this, well good. If not, updating is YOUR choice :)

I just poked around in the zip file and as already been mentioned it has the 1.58.0000 hboot and the Sprint Optimizer application. The rest of the firmware is there too but I don't know if it's a newer baseband version or if the November OTA was just rolled up into this version. My guess is that's the case since the patches for the stock ROM seem to be included as well.

The main version (mainver) after the update should be 2.95.652.5 and I'm interested in knowing what the baseband version will be.

If you could do a few things, I assume you have adb installed on your pc or linux rig? If so can you run

$ adb pull /proc/config.gz

Also if you could rip the ROM off using a nandroid backup that would awesome. Be interesting to see if they update the Bluetooth modules and such, and if the kernel update is in fact the one HTC posted on HTCDEV.com.

I don't see a kernel update anywhere in the zip file, nor was there anything in the November OTA. All the ROM related changes seem to be new files or patches to modules in the /system partition.

Edit: NVM. I just noticed that there is a boot.img file in the firmware zip file.

Here's a firmware only zip file from this OTA for any S-OFF users that want to flash just that portion of the update. The 1.58 hboot, which is already available separately, and the boot.img file have been removed.

Important note for S-ON users:

Do not take this update and then root or you may not be able to get S-OFF. The unlimited.io procedure wants the RUU flashed before doing the wire trick but the setmainverlow.zip may not be enough to allow flashing a back level RUU because the hboot is also getting updated with this OTA. Therefore, it may not be possible to get back to 100% stock when S-ON with this update installed after flashing a custom recovery and rooting.

One solution may be to flash a totally stock, unrooted ROM and the stock recovery before doing the wire trick, but that will need to be tested. If/when an updated RUU is available this will no longer be an issue.

I can confirm that this does not appear to contain a roll up of the last update on account of having to install this update after installing the 1.14 update prior to being able to get this one after running the RUU.

I need to flash this, i don't have nothing to lose, as i can't receive any calls or texts in my house since december, maybe the new update will fix my issue..

by the way we have 2 other virgin mobile phones in my house MT and Sii and they work perfect, the only one having the call issues when at home is my evo v.

you think i should run the ruu and run the update? to see if it fixes my problem

Yeah, it took me to the 1.14 OTA first, which was ~15MB. Rebooted, went to System OTA > Then this was 55mb. So that's where I'm a bit at a loss...

not a problem, g60. I did a /system dump once I took the OTA. So if you need anything else, let me know. Uploading those folders as you requested now.

I appreciate it man!! I will spend some time on this tonight with Meld!! And yeah using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. It's all I use when developing as it's the easiest to setup. I figure why waste time trying to using Ubuntu 11 or 12 as I can be running from a full format and building in less than 30 minutes :D
