System Upgrade 1.47.651..1 (21.43 MB) Now Available

Looks like you and i are in the same boat...BRICKED EVOS..

Earlier this morning i successfully installed the HC software update...then my phone began to download the system update ( firmware i assume) on its own...the first update was a success with a notification stating just that...the 2nd update however failed i guess...while installing, the display just shut off...i left it alone for 10 minutes assuming it was doing its thing but then i realized the phone was NOT responding nor doing anything...i tried removing the battery, SD card, booting while holiding the volume buttons down and all and it simply will not boot...charger is no good..phone doesnt even recognize charger it simply stays off no LED nothing...tried connecting to PC and same...nothing..

so i have decided to return this Evo to radioshack using the 30 day garantee from sprint..then ill buy it at bestbuy so that i can also get their warranty..Radioshack doesnt have a warranty themselves, you gota use sprints if you buy from the shack. sprints warranty as you know will grant you a refurb unit. Bestbuy will either try to fix it and if they cannot they will grant you a NEW unit. Granted their warranty is $9.99 a month for 2 years, but its better than getting a refurb unit later down the line

i would also like to add that my Evo was NOT ROOTED...i was running stock android 2.1 since launch day, only update installed was to address Micro SD card issues
I am sorry but people keep talking about refurbs.. while i understand wanting new .. what the hell is the difference between repaired and (refurb).. same thing guys HELLO.. when they repair your phone they replace what it needs JUST LIKE a returned refurb!

question.. is there a way to get the android wallpapers off the phone before i update? im currently using one and really like it..

I wonder how many people will brick their phone to be able to return it to a Sprint store to get around screen and light leakage issues? Just wondering... Amazing the trust I have in other people ;)

Was notified about update this morning when I woke up (hawaii). The download and update went without a hitch. I did lose the widgets as others have, I alsolost the Sense power control widgets. Had to power cycle to get those back. Now mostly back to normal, though I can confirm the issue with ShootMe. Then again shootme supposedly does not work without root so was it a bonus in the first place? Hope they can get out working without root again.

Has anyone noticed a significant DECREASE in battery life after applying the update? I had all my settings so I could get a full day (12 hours) on one charge; now, I drop about 1 percent every 2 minutes, and the uptime / awake time show only a 6 minute difference.

I don't understand why ppl are getting mad at Sprint when they are the one's installing the update twice. Maybe the first few posts I understand, but why would others read this thread and still do the install twice is beyond me.

Check your Google Talk. People have reported that the update resets it to turn on upon reboot. It's probably running right now which is causing the uptime problem.

Thanks. It hadn't for me, and I signed in and then out just now. I'll monitor...

I used ATK to kill some tasks, but battery percent went from 50 to 40 in under 10 minutes. ATK is NOT set to auto-kill.

Im not sure if you know but you can just go to BB or RS or sprint and tell them you have light leakage and they will replave your evo..... Not sure why someone would say something else when thats covered..........

3 hours after the update and this is the battery chart. I have not used at all, but in 3 hrs the phone has drain only 13% of battery most of the time in idle mode. But before the update the phone will drain more battery.

what is running on you phone that the CPU activity is so high when the device isn't in use.

As long as you unchecked automatically sign in and also exit properly after use it wont eat any battery up. You can leave this running in running services.

This makes no sense. It shouldn't be running to begin with. I killed the task and am not signed into Gtalk since i un checked the auto option and made sure i signed out. killing the process USED to let the process stay killed and now after the update it keeps coming back up for some reason.

I believe I may have found the reason why. Whenever you turn on/off Wifi or mobile network, the gTalk turns on automatically.

This is not the case as I have WiFi and 4G off here and GTalk comes back on when it wants to on its own without messing with any of the networks.

The thing about refurbs is that someone ELSE was using that handset when it became defective. The company restored the device by fixing what was wrong then they hand it over to you. I recieved a refurb before and it wasnt the same thing as my older one. in terms of condition. The one i recieved not only had light scratches on the screen, but on the body as well. ( im talking about my refurb Tour 9630) Ever since then i have decided not to use sprints warranty method. I mean overall i paid $199 for a brand new Evo. Imagine later down the line 6 months later, you end up with a used refurb evo that has some minor scratches on the screen. It just isnt the same for me. I take good care of my phones and if one of my phones become defective i want one that is in similar or better quality, not a unit that has some scuff marks and scratches that i didnt cause

DOH! Oh well. I'll see what they say at my Sprint.

Well, update to the situation with the phone. Took it in to my local Sprint Corporate office for a repair and unfortunately they couldn't do anything and issued me a paper statement saying that the device will have to be replaced.

Best Buy is happy to exchange, but I'm calling around frantically to find one that has it in stock. So far, no Best Buys in my local area have them in stock, so I guess I'll have to wait to exchange it.

I just updated to the new version after Sprint just gave me a new Evo today after bricking my first one.

All is good so far with the new update, just do it once ladies and gents.

I did the update and everything seems ok, except when I type i can no longer long press to delete or get special characters when I try to use the keyboard. Is anyone else having this issue?
