Help System Upgrade 2.29.405.5

I'm not an Android whizz, but I've found that my unlocked unbranded Desire has a "ro.cid" value of "ORANG001". This is the value it's complaining about when it checks the phone's "ro.cid" value to be equal to "HTC__001", "HTC__E11", etc. So this update won't go in the easy way. It looks like updating from SD card may be needed for these handsets until someone finds a way to fix the "ro.cid" value.

Perhaps HTC is tightening its checks against handset owners who don't like being crippled by bad customisation.

You will always have an Orange sid. The gold card is supposed to mask it, but your findings are .indeed interesting. Sounds like HTC have managed to circumvent the goldcard.

But why/

Hi All

A couple of days ago, i recieved a notification on my HTC Desire HD, thinking it was off vodafone i downloaded it when i got home through my wireless connection. After the installation some of my games and apps didnt work. So i did a restore, the problems are circulating around my SD card, i have lost my photos, music, and can not use my camera.....

Can anyone help me please and has anyone else had same problem.

I've been into vodafone, but they said it was not there problem, it was an android issue.....

Help me please, cos i really like my phone and want to get my phone back how it was before the update, my fone was working fine before this.....

Hi Shofar if what you are saving is correct about the update removing the auto email delete problem that arrived with froyo, it is definitely worth me going to some trouble to install it. Otherwise I won't bother. Is this still correct? If so thanks for the information.

Yes, chrisrosevilla the emails now stay in the inbox even when they have been removed from the server by downloading by my laptop.

It's strange, when FROYO messed this up I was upset and had to save to the Trash file.
Now that I am used to it, when I want to delete, I have to do it twice - once from inbox and once from trash.

Anyway this has been fixed.

Desire updated via exe file from metafile to 2.29.405.5 as goldcard method didn't work - as I am on an debranded orange handset that was previously rooted using unrevoked, but then put back to (almost) stock.

Lets see how it goes - hopefully no wifi issues etc!!!

The camcorder stopped working on this update for me. :( Annoyed! If I try to take a video the app just stops responding to any key presses.

Not noticed any issues yet, but I'm on an unbranded rather than debranded desire

It's changed the market so that it looks less clunky though

I finally decided to apply the 2.29.405.5 upgrade via the RUU file (total reinstall) on my unlocked debranded Desire. Works fine - the locking up of videos on the BBC News site (which started with the 2.29.405.2 OTA upgrade) has disappeared. Shortly after upgrading, I started the Market, which showed the old GUI, downloaded an app ok. Then tried again and got the 'Market application not installed' error, waited a minute and tried it again, and it worked OK and showed the new GUI. Must have been updating it behind the scenes.

So HTC don't want us debranders to use OTA updates, but we can bypass it with RUU updates (with the minor hassle of reinstalling). Pretty pointless on HTC's part.

I wonder if HTC are reading this and using it to see if their latest experiment has put us debranders off. Well it doesn't seem to be working folks, but it is making HTC look bad. :p

I haven't had this update on T Mobile - does that sound right - still on 2.12.110.4??

Still says no updates available? Should this be for everyone?

Hi,
Earlier this month Approx 8th Dec, my Desire popped up saying i had a Software update available, but i cancelled it because i wasnt in Wifi Range and didnt have a good Mobile coverage in the area i was.
Anyhow,
I updated it last night (24/12/10) as it poppled back up again, i let it run its course, and it downloaded, installed but like mentioned by the first guy, it crashed and had the Red Triange.
I had to do the same and take my battery out,
But then when i restarted the phone, it loads upto the lock screen fine, and everything starts to load up at the top.
Once i slide the lock screen down i get the error

The Application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I have looked through loads of sites regarding this.

Possible solutions included:
1)Take battery and SD card out for 15 secs
2)Get into settings and clear the Cache for Htc Sense
3)Remove any updates prior to the software update (google maps updated so i undid that)
4)Hard reset (restore factory settings)

I have tried every single one of these and still have the same problem.
Does anyone else know of anything that i might be able to try.
Im at wits ends with it all, i even tried to call the technical support and i got a message saying there closed until 4th Jan. - I can't wait that long!

Anyway,
Rant over.

Thanks for any help in Advance!

Hi I had exactly the same problem when I did the update back in early December. Tried factory reset and eventually came to the conclusion that I had a bad flash.

I eventually resolved the problem by downloading and flashing the ship ROM from the following site:

Shipped ROMs

And from what I recall I downloaded this ROM:

RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe

The file is an RUU (ROM Update Utility) which will run in Windows, but you will need to make sure that the drivers are installed correctly. Also be aware that you will lose all data on the phone (SD card should be OK, but prob best to remove just in case).

Once I flashed it sorted the problem and have just flashed the recent OTA update without any further problems (relief).

Cheers,

G

Or you can just apply the update manually from the sd card in reocvery mode - There is a thread on here that details it all for you. Just make sure you have your gold card in.

I did it on mine and it worked a treat - no problems since doing it.

Kenty, do you have a link for this. Wouldn't mind giving this a go tonight befor going down the route that would wipe my device.

Thanks in advance,
William

Why would you wipe your device to get this update? It won't give you anything new or fix anything important.

Its almost a joke how desperate people are to update to the latest version for no benefit. So much so that they would consider wiping all their data.

The .405 bit means its for unbranded devices. Yours is branded (.110).

Mr France, I wouldn't say I'm desperate but as a person who knows nothing about Android I am assuming that without this update I'll not get any further ones?

Also, speaking as an Android Noob. If my phone tells me it wants to update I let it do it.

I agree there's a lot of us that are waiting for gingerbread 2.3 and as I see it everybody with debranded phones that can't get this last update won't get the 2.3 including me

There will always be a way, provided its released officially.

Otherwise, theres always root but lets cross that bridge when we come to it.

Out of curiosity I emailed HTC support about this. They asked me to do a soft reset, then a hard reset, and when I said neither allowed me to install the new update they asked me to send the phone to them for repair!

Needless to say I'm not going to do that...

The Direct RUU method is confirmed working with a goldcard, but of course it wipes your phone.

Its just the OTA with a goldcard that doesn't work.

Both fully understood, but I was wondering what HTC had to say about it, hence my email to them.

Hi Kenty, could you point me in the direction of the thread that says how to do this. Thanks
