I'm currently on my honeymoon and should be enjoying complementary free WIFI, but since the .5 update on xmas day I have not been able to connect to the network, it tries to receive an IP address and keeps failing. Thought it may have been the network, but my laptop and my wife's iPhone connect absolutely fine, which is annoying as usually I have bragging rights to the best phone! After the .2 update on xmas eve my WIFI was still working btw.

I haven't tampered with this phone at all since I got it back in April, it is on Orange, but not branded as I got it from the Carphone Warehouse.

Seems there is no way to legitemately (sp?) restore my phone to a pre-update state either. Fantastic.

Hi just returned from Thailand and i had the same problem connecting to a hotel wifi system allthough i have been unable to install the .5 update on my orange unbranded handset. Again the laptop and the wifes i phone 4 connected straight away as you had said. I contacted HTC told them what routers the hotel was using (3 com officeconnect)and the connection setting taken off the wifes i phone and they told me it was a compatibility problem between the desire and the 3 com router and to ask them to switch channels to see if that worked. As if they are going to do that just so i can connect my desire. So i thought never mind i will buy a Thai 3g sim as it is just rolling out in Thailand (True move is the company who do 3g).So off i goes buys the sim and some airtime and it did not work either.Apparently the frequency used in thailand is 850mhz which the desire does not support.So by this time i thinking maybe i should have got an i phone after all which is a shame because untill this i would not have swopped no way no how.Anyway sorry for going on but to get back to your original point maybe it was a compatibility issue with the hotel router and not the fault of the update.
