Instead of the sapphire, give me the memphis (only with a 5 row keyboard, like the G1, instead of 4 rows like in the pics).

That's why I mentioned the Memphis. The Memphis looks sort of like the Sapphire (the "G2") but with a side-slide keyboard:

Unfortunately, it looks like it only has a 4 row keyboard. That probably means the numbers are accessed via a symbol key. Blech. That's at least better than no keyboard at all, but I'd rather see the Memphis retain the G1's keyboard layout.

Well, at least I won't feel the need to rush out and get the G2. I'll just put that ~$400 to my CA trip in May.

Android is about freedom to choose.

In the next 12 months we will see several new Android handsets, and at least one other major carrier will join the Android parade.

It'll be noisy. It'll be inconvenient. And it'll be great.

Thats why I came aboard. I know the G1 isnt an iphone killer or really that great of a phone at all. Trust me, my BB Curve put this phone to shame. I jumped ship cause I like the freedom/openess Android represents, its future potential and the excitement of it all.

While I do absolutely agree with you about Freedom&Openness being Android's biggest bonus, and that I don't care about being an (anyphone)-killer ...

I just wanted to reply to one part of your message: my wife just ordered herself a G1 because she's tired of how lousy her BB Curve is. She's tried my G1 a few times, and for her the main selling point is that the reception has been just that much better on the G1. Her Curve is constantly dropping calls, for example.

ok...call reception wasnt "all that". lol. The way the email push works and just the overall smoothness of the OS is really great on the BB, though...in my opinion. The G1, at this stage, is more of a fun phone...a toy for adults/gadget freaks. I dont mean that to sound negative. I wouldnt go back to my BB. The BB was all business...the G1 has some personality and I love that. I know it'll only get better with time!!
