Hmm .. So other files work but that one doesn't? Maybe try downloading the file again. Have you tried to copy it to internal storage? Then you could move it to the SD card if it works. Do you have a big enough data plan you could download it to your phone? Can you put your SD card in your computer and see if it will copy?

downloaded the file again and even a different rom,Tried to install both of them to no avail so im in the middle of downloading on the phone. But to a flashing fiend like me i have to get this figured out .

I'm not sure what the problem is. Did you try copying it to internal storage or putting your SD card in your computer? What brand/size SD card do you have?

After installing the recovery and flashing MDB-SetUIDOff.zip, got an error during the flash and can't go back into recovery.

Using this method to root my device has caused me some problems with Wifi. Specifically, it no longer retains the wifi passwords, so it won't connect when i get home.

I should state that i have a MetroPCS S4, but was under the impression that it is exactly the same as the TMo S4, so everything works the same.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

My real problem now, is that i forgot to backup the system before rooting, so now i can't go back to pre-root, without using the TMo unroot methods; and they have different builds.

Anyone know where i can get a builds for MetroPCS? It's UVUAMF2 ( as opposed to DL and DB )

Regards

There are some other Metro users in this thread that didn't use this guide but used the same method with another guide and they also had trouble with wifi. I think its the kernel that is flashed that was needed to root the T-Mobile MDL update.

You can try flashing a rom like Wicked, that seemed to work for someone, or you can flash a different kernel like this Deviant kernel. Its the same kernel in the Wicked rom so it should work.

I've checked but can't find the stock Metro firmware yet.

btw .. if you need to root again, I updated the guide to use CF-Auto-Root. It works for the Metro S4 also. Just select the file for the T-Mobile S4.

This is for the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 Only!

This will, technically, void your warranty.

TWRP is a great touch recovery. Read more about it.

This is an easy process. Please read it carefully.

If you need drivers to connect your phone to your computer, you can download the drivers here. This is official Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0

1 - Download the TWRP 2.5.0.2 tar file. Do not extract the files.

2 - Download Odin 3.07 and extract the files

3 - Download CF-Auto-Root and extract the .tar file

4 - Double click the Odin3 v3.07 file to start Odin. Auto Reboot should be selected by default. If not, select it and only select Auto Reboot. Make sure re-partition is not selected.

4 - Power off your phone. Then hold the power button and volume down until you see the warning screen.

5 - Press volume up to get to download mode

6 - Now connect your phone to the computer. You will see the com port light up when Odin recognizes your phone. Press the PDA button, browse to the CF-Auto-Root .tar file and select it.

7 - Press Start. Odin will install CF-Auto-Root. When it is finished you will see a green PASS in the top left and your phone will reboot. CF-Auto-Root will then root you.

To install your TWRP custom recovery, just repeat the same process but use the TWRP tar. To get to your new recovery, Power off, hold the power button and the up volume. Let go of the buttons when you see the small blue text in the upper left of your screen. TWRP recovery will look like this.

If it still goes to the stock recovery instead of TWRP. Try installing TWRP again with Odin but this time uncheck auto-reboot. When you see the Green Pass and you're sure Odin is done, unplug the USB cable and pull out your battery. Put the battery back in and reboot. You should be able to get to TWRP now.

After you are rooted, go back to TWRP and select backup. Make a nandroid backup of your rooted stock rom. If you ever have a problem after installing a custom rom, or just don't like it, you can restore this backup, or a more recent one you may have made. Do not forget to do this! A nandroid backup may save your life someday and it makes baby kittens smile.

Be warned! Backups on this phone can be very large. Mine was 3.2 gig. Make sure you select your external sd card for the backup location.

Thanks for the details. lol when I rooted my s3 I wasn't that nervous. But this baby is a lil more expensive & I don't wanna brick it lol

Well hehehe, I was gonna wait a week to root. Just play around to get used to it. lmao naaaaahhhh. Went ahead & rooted lol after only 5 days. I want more speed & options.
This method is soooo much easier & faster than for my S3. Making a backup now, & it's off to the flash lane :D

Cool I rooted mines the same day too many goodies

Okay, so I'm having an issue with this recovery, and I need some help on the double
I got all of this taken care of, and was flashing WICKED to my Galaxy S4 when all of a sudden..... brick. I followed the instructions perfectly, plus I've got a pretty good understanding of all of this. Not my first time. However, I did make a nandroid backup. For the first time, I ACTUALLY remembered to make a backup :D aaaaannndddd it's gone.o_O Not literally gone, but I can't restore! Every time that I try to restore, it ends up failing, and then saying that I need to fix root permissions. I've done that several times, and before I flashed the ROM onto it I made double sure it was rooted and ready. Could somebody offer a helping hand? This is my brand new and only phone.:(

*Edit: I was able to recover using the Samsung Kies app via my laptop, lost all my data but have a working phone. Any suggestions for a rom compatible with baseband FNK2 android version 4.4.4?

So this thread is from 2013 so I don't know if you still respond or not but

I have two questions
1.My phone is already rooted and I just want TWRP so can I just install TWRP straight up and skip installing the root file?

2.I started GTA Vice City two weeks ago and I'm so far into the game and I REALLY do not want to restart the game again. Is there some way I can back up all my game data before installing a new rom, because I heard that you have to wipe the device in order to install a new rom using TWRP. Btw like stated before, my phone is already rooted if it makes it any easier and I have TMobile s4 sgh-m919

I would recommend a newer version of TWRP https://twrp.me/
Download the latest image file (.img) from the download link above. Place it in the root of your /sdcard folder and rename it to twrp.img. Run the following commands via adb shell or a terminal emulator app:

su

dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21

TWRP backups will be very large 3gb or more most likely. So get a SDcard.
As soon as you install the Recovery make a (Nandroid) backup of your phone cause you may want to go back to this Rom.
