t-mobile, in store vs online?

Another first time poster here but I've been reading this & the xda desire forums since they were created.

Today is my official upgrade day on t-mobile and you can imagine my disappointment when contacting all the Bristol stores to be told various estimates of delivery times ranging up to 3 weeks. I then started phoning further afield and upon ringing about the 12th store have found one 30 miles away so I'm off to collect it!

wow good luck!

This changing terms thing, so i just got a new contract with tmobile, and if they were to change their terms, i can just say....i dont agree...and then i can leave? and keep me free HTC Desire?
how often do they change their terms?

I have returned with a Desire in hand.

If anyone in the South West needs a Desire, the Swindon branch of T-Mobile has 2 left. (All 3 Bristol stores, Newport, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bath & Chippenham have sold out).

Now to wait the three hour charge time. Good excuse to get some paperwork out the way to pay the bills :)

i have never had the patience to do the charging thing :s ... i do try....but end up playing with it after 20 mins!:)

ditto lol

I cant even wait 20 mins*
I put it on charge and play while its on charge right away. ha ha

Does anyone know how much that will affect the battery performance as HTC say do not switch it on until its fully charged.

Whilst not living up to my earlier intentions to do some work I have at least remained strong and not turned on the unit yet.

Spent the time browsing the Desire forums :D

the way i understand it, it calibrates the battery, this is like telling the phone
This much power means its full
and this much power means its empty
the phone needs to know this, so that when you put it on charge, it stops charging at 100% and not 90% ( even though it may display 100% charged) so basically the phone need to know the capacity of the battery, so it needs a whole charge cycle

BUT its not the end of the world
because to calibrate the battery you can either do the 3 hours before you use it

OR

Let the battery run down ALL the way, until it wont turn on at all
leave the phone on charge for 3 hours
Then it will be at its true 100% capacity, you may want to do this twice, some peopel say twice is better

its recommended you do this every 3 months

Thats good to hear :)

I never done that with any of my phones lol
my current C905 battery is messed up atm as it keeps draining so fast with 3G off and not much use exp texts thru the day and it now needs a charge every 2 days while before I could get a few days from it.

hey, first post =]

i'm getting a desire at some point soon, and what i was wondering is, are the plans that are available on the t-mobile website cheaper than what you would find instore?

i was going to wait and see what the orange plans are like, but i don't really know how much longer i can wait to get my hands on a desire. And orange aren't usually cheap are they?

I just got one at t-mobile online, using the quidco cashback site

Many thanks for all the info on this site - got my new HTC Desire yesterday & as a complete numpty it'll take me ages to get used to it I know - but I love it already! :D

just to update on this.
i've just had an email from t-mobile saying that my desire is on its way =]
ordered it last friday so i avoided the price rises!

got it for

My experience was the deals in the TMobile store near me, Swindon, wasn't as good as I could get online.

I ordered 600 Minutes, 500 Text and Unlimited Mobile Web for 24 months with a free Desire phone at

mine just arrived this morning :D
gosh it is a lovely phone!

just gotta not touch it now for 3 hours whilst it charges =[

also, to use the PAC do i put the sim card in and then ring t-mobile and give them the code?
i thought maybe putting the sim card in activated it and then you couldn't change your number across?

yeah i have the code
i will do that then when i turn it on
thanks.

now just gotta distract myself for 3 hours lol
