Senator Blumenthal Calls for Vigorous Oversight, Net Neutrality Conditions On Proposed AT&T–T-Mobile Merger
Monday, March 21, 2011
Senator Richard Blumenthal - United States Senator for Connecticut: Press - Press Release
Apparently the good Senator agrees with those of us who feel that this is a bad deal. And wonder of wonders...he used the "M" word too! Senator Blumenthal has also mentioned the "anti-trust" word...It is about to get interesting folks!
F.Y.I. I started this topic. If you are unhappy here you can take your petty infantile attempts at insulting the good people here (by insinuating that we couldn't AFFORD to be gouged by ATT - ROTFLOL) elsewhere. And indeed, the discussion can move forward without incident.
Here is what the Senator had to say:
(Hartford, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement today in the wake of the announcement of an agreement by AT&T to purchase T-Mobile USA, which would create an entity that would create the largest mobile company in the national wireless carrier market:
“The proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile potentially raises serious antitrust issues that must be addressed before the agreement is allowed to go forward. Regulatory approval should contain strict conditions to ensure that consumer concerns about cost, access, choice, and competition are adequately addressed.
“Moreover, such high wireless market concentration raises serious potential net neutrality concerns that should be addressed. The largest mobile network in the nation must not be allowed to limit access to content in a discriminatory manner.
“I join several of my Senate colleagues in calling for close scrutiny of this proposed merger, and will continue to examine legislative avenues to safeguard choice and competition in the wireless market, in addition to promoting net neutrality principles across the internet for all American consumers, regardless of network.”
