Root taking the plunge

update:

deleted all HTC stuff from my computer and reinstalled drivers and i have successfully rooted!!

excellent! your cigar and jacket are on the table :)

also,a little more info if you dont mind. did you delete the tool, redownload, and start completely over? if so,was the beta key different than the first 2 you had?

or did you use an allready downloaded tool, and a beta key you allready had?

last and not least, did you use the drivers provided by revolutionary? or reinstall the htc sync drivers?

thanks for any more info you can think of,in case we run across similar issues in the future :)

thx for the cigar and jacket! (though i quit 2 weeks ago!)

the only HTC item i left on the computer was the HTCDriver3.0.0.007 installer. i reran that, redownloaded revolutionary, ran the program as described in the youtube video (nat3mil) and that was all she wrote!

the beta key i was given was the same as the first one i had received. i did NOT reinstall HTC Sync

now i get the pleasure of flashing roms and finding one i like!

thank you to all who helped me!!

thanks for the info,im sure it will come in handy.

id check out the [how to] and rom list stickys at the top of the page, and post up in a new thread if you have any questions

glad you got it working finally

Congrats on rooting! I just rooted for the first time ever just a few minutes ago. Now do figure out how to flash these ROM things.

There's a HOW TO sticky at the top of the All Things Root section that has detailed instructions on how to make a backup, flash a ROM and a Kernel.

Good luck

Yes, I am using all the resources at the same time as trying to figure some of this stuff out myself. I've been lurking around here since months before the Thunderbolt came out (got it 2 days after release). I was convinced I would root at some point and this new easier method finally got me off the sidelines and into the game. :)
