Help Talk and surf?

Yes, if you are connected to the internet via WiFi. If you are, then you won't be able to.

I do this all the time w/ my Samsung Droid Charge no matter what data connection I am using. So the Nexus should as well.

Verizon: If your in an LTE area only, or apparently if the Gnex has SVDO?

AT&T & Tmo: Yes as long as your in an area with 3G or 4G coverage. (Cant over EDGE or GPRS)

Pardon me but I understand this "talk and surf" thingie is a marketing campaign by AT&T. But I don't know anyone who talks and surfs on a regular basis. I have never done that myself. Most of my friends will never answer the phone but only text messages.

I've used it when I had to answer a call while using maps for directions

I'm also able to talk and surf the web at the same time no matter what type of data connection I have 3G or 4G lte on my thunderbolt

you should be able to do it for sure over 4G lte no matter what

I regularly tether my laptop to my current phone, but the data connection is cut as soon as I take a phone call.

Another scenario would be while using the device as a dashboard navigation unit and taking a call (something I don't currently do, but am looking forward to with the Nexus).

Another would be being stuck on hold with somebody like the bank, credit card company or utility, and locked out of accessing the web to pull up the transaction in question. I've been here a few times, but pre-load the pages I need to reference before placing the call.

So yeah, AT&T's ads are far fetched, but it's a legit feature to advertise. I'm hoping the 4G coverage is solid enough that this isn't much of a problem, because it's looking like the LTE Nexus isn't going to have the SVDO technology to do this over 3G.

Well, I have the 4G Galaxy Tab and the coverage has been great, not only at where I live, but also in other cities where I attended professional conferences. Verizon has the best 4G LTE network right now. :)

I have had many occasions when I've had to talk on the phone with customer service while looking online at an account. Just because you and your friends have never had the need for it doesn't mean no one else does.

It's not just a marketing campaign. You cannot talk and surf the web at the same time over a 3G connection on a CDMA carrier (e.g. Verizon)--you can on a GSM network (e.g. ATT).

However, you can on Verizon LTE 4G.

It's not just marketing, it's a limitation inherent in CDMA technology.

A lot of information in this post.

If you are on the GNex and have LTE (4G) then you can talk&surf at the same time since data is over LTE and voice is over 3G/1x. If you only have a 3G (or 1x) connection you cannot talk and surf on Verizon, UNLESS you have an HTC phone using their special SVDO radio which allows simultaneous voice & data over 3G.

There was a rumor that the Charge would support SVDO, then a rumor that it had the necessary radio and *should* be able to even though it didn't at launch -- any idea what that was all about?

It seems like a neat technology to have, if only from a marketing standpoint (although AT&T's example in their TV ad of the guy trying to make last minute dinner reservations while talking to his wife is so bad it would convince me I *didn't* need it).

Always thought it was a gimmick feature but I actually use it a lot especially when tethering . It's also very nice to be able to look something up as you talk to someone so you have the proper information .

I often talk and use data simultaneously (maps, browser, email, calendars, SSH). It's one of the reasons I never switched to Verizon. Now that they've implemented LTE in my area, I look forward to the Galaxy Nexus.
