Help Task manager/Total memory

I have the same thing showing. Really though it's not too concerning. As long as the majority of your apps go to the SD card it will take a while to fill that

Why in the task manager does it show that ive used much more than i have free?, evan after I refresh and kill all it still shows that I dont have much MBs left, Maybe if some one could explain this a littel I might get a better understanding of it.
I have all my downloaded apps moved to my sd card but stil have no clue. Thanx in advance
Ha, seems like we both have the same annoyances. I think I found a large source of this memory usage. If you go into the "watch" app, you'll see that The Green Hornet is preloaded on your phone. It's also in 3D, which I was pleasantly surprised by. What I wasn't happy about was that it is 1811mb! I will definitely watch the movie, considering that it costs like $28 if you buy it from the watch store. I just hope it can be deleted when you're done with it!

This isn't actually the internal storage. It's the RAM that you're looking at. Programs that are currently running take up RAM like the Android operating system. What you guys are thinking about is the ROM (internal storage for apps, movies, music, etc.) Hope this helps.

Mine doesn't have the movie pre loaded.

Do you realy have the green hornet movie or is it the preview? are you sure cause the last few and me myself donot have the movie and on top of that the preview is not in 3d

Me either, but the Trailer and 2 other trailer on it.
Mine didn't come with any trailers ... OH so I tried to watch the movie this morning and I got an error that "This promotion has ended". I don't doubt that the movie is full length, because of the sheer size of the file. (1811mb to be exact) I know because my htc flyer came with the green hornet trailer and two others. All of the trailers were ~24mb each. This one is like two gigs. Kind of annoying that I can't even watch it though...

What I see.

This is really interesting. I may email HTC and ask for a free movie :D

Back to the topic, are we suppose to get 1gb of ram? I knew the OS runs part of it, but I get the same thing like only 797mb ram, and always have more than 400mb are in use.

Android will take unused RAM (to a certain extent) and cache commonly used programs so that they will load faster when you want to use them. This is why it appears to use most of the RAM. It will also kill those cached apps when you open a program and need the RAM for something else. You shouldn't need to do any of that yourself (with the exception of some badly coded app messing with things [this is pretty rare, though]). Let the system manage it like it is supposed to and don't worry about it unless there is some other issue.

As far as how much is showed, certain amounts are given to the java environment and GPU that isn't available for the rest of the system.
Think of it like this, Phone -> Linux -> Java -> Android. The phone boots linux. Linux allocates X RAM to Java. This JAVA system only sees that it has Y amount of RAM since its running in a sort of VM (virtual machine).

Your apps being on internal memory or sd card have nothing to do with this (or anything else like movies). That is ROM.

Hope that makes it a bit more clear for you all.

I know. I was trying to say that preloaded apps use RAM whether you want them to or not since they are installed by default without your input.

You have the option to disable them in ICS. Or to root the phone and delete them entirely. Either options will stop that. :)

The disable option is something that I think is pretty awesome especially for those that don't want to root their device (like my wife ).

Awesome, did not know you can disable. I wonder which ones are safe to disable. Thanks for the tip.

Where can I found that option?

I just got this phone few days ago and when I checked on the task manager, it shows 500+MB used and only around 100MB free. I was very surprise and wonder how to free more MB instead of killing all my opened apps.

Besides I figure killing apps in task manager appears to increase the used memory.

Plz can someone explain why and what's the deal with the memory usage shown in the task manager?

As was previously posted, you want the phone to use and manage most of your memory, what's the point of having unused ram? The whole point is that Android preloads your apps for quicker response. Having your ram sitting on the sidelines is worthless, let the system take care of business. 100 megs of free ram is huge on Android.
