"Tasker" is a BEAST! (in a good way)

State -> Orientation -> Face Down -> + -> Display -> Display Timeout -> Set time (you have to choose at least 7 seconds)

That's what I ended up doing, but what I really wanted was it to turn off instantly. Similar to how it turns the screen off when held up to your ear in a phone call.

anyone know of a way to make the camera button show a menu for the different camera apps? it used to work when tasker could stop the event, but now it just goes straight to the camera
I have
Event: camera button
wait 5 sec
go home (heard this might work but doesnt)
Menu : camera, camcorder, bar code scanner

I found Phone Weaver and it does basically every thing i want in tasker, but simpler and cleaner, except this. and now tasker cant do it either.
Can anyone help make it work?

Event Camera button:

new task (name it what you want)
go to task settings (the button with tools on it). Change task type to menu
click done
then click + to add
click app..... load app
pick your app

repeat for all apps

click done
click apply

Next time you click camera button it should give you a menu.... now, you have a droid X and I dont know how to make the camera button not open the camera app but that you should ask on the X board. I believe you can set a priority to override the default.

Yea, thats the problem, especially with 2.2.
I had it stop the camera button event, and then insert the camera menu.
worked great till the 2.2 update. :(

Like many people, i want tasker to turn on GPS prior to opening maps. here's the issue I've run in to. Ever since Froyo update I have three options to pick from:
1. vzw location services
2. standalone gps services
3. google location services

my question is; how do I get tasker to select standalone? I can't find any widget that will turn it on, they all just take me to the location settings. I figure if any program can do this tasker can, I just can't figure it out!! any help?

Tasker is by far the best mobile app anyone has ever created. The power is endless. So far my favorite task is my Anti-Theft task. Its a spin-off of the Locate your phone using SMS and google maps profile at the tasker wiki site. What mine does it:

I send my phone a text from my google voice number or my girlfriends cell phone with a key phrase to trigger the task. This causes makes
-GPS turn on
-Sends both my google voice account a text and depending on if my girlfriend triggered the task her a text of a link to the phones location on google maps, Speed of the phone (to know if it is moving and how fast), Battery level, if the phone is plugged in or not, the last call's time and number and the last app used.
-Waits 15 min
-Sends the text again

I have made a couple of other tasks that are enabled by the previous profile and these allow my phone to keep transmitting the info to me even if the person who stole it is smart enough to turn the GPS off.

The first task turns the GPS on if it has been turned off every time the screen is turned off so my previous location task can still alert me where my phone is.

The next task alerts me when the phone is powered off via text and its last known location.

The last task alerts me when the phone is turned back on and triggers the first task again which sends me info every 15 min.

These three alternate tasks which are triggered allow my phone to continue to tell me where it is so I can hopefully recover it if it ever gets stolen. Another great feature of tasker is you can Lock certain profiles by checking the Lock in UI option in the task properties and entering a pin code in tasker's main settings. This makes it so you cannot turn a task off, get in to alter it or even see what the task does. Also, it prevents you from getting into the list of tasks without the pin. This makes it so these location tasks can not be disabled. Since I am using my google voice account to text which I dont use for anything else I blacklisted the number so the text that sets the profile off isn't even seen by anyone if I use that number to trigger it leaving no suspicions I am trying to locate my phone. I have mobile defense installed which can locate my phone as well but this does not work when the GPS is turned of which if I ever stole a phone (I never would) would be the first thing I would do... This task alone is worth the 5 bucks or so I payed for the app.

Some other things I use tasker for are:

-While at work listening to an app that plays music such as pandora or doubletwist it turns the lock off, keeps my screen on, and dims the brightness

-Media volume turns up when I plug headphones in.

-If headphones are plugged in the phone reads me an incoming text.

-Silences my phone at work and sets it to vibrate when im headed home.

-When I get home it turns on Wifi, turns up my alarm volume to max, and sets my brightness to 80.

I just love this app!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a note on anti theft, make sure your phrase is something that wont arouse suspicion. I suggest something like "Thanks for the birthday pressent."

Yes, I misspelled present on purpose. It wont arouse any suspicion AND it will be easily dismissed by the thief. Also, it avoids the possibility your gf sends you the exact message.

That's a good trigger. Yeah, I made sure to make It something common enough it wasn't suspicious but also something someone would never text me to set the trigger off. I thought about limiting it to only those two phone numbers but I wanted the ability to trigger it from other numbers just in case I had someone else with me helping trackbit down.

i need to make a profile where wifi and mobile data will turn off if my battery reaches 30% and less. i have been messing around with this all evening, and i cannot figure it out. i'm starting to get pretty irritated so any help would be very much appreciated! thanks a lot in advance!

Locatephone - Tasker Wiki

Use this as a beginning. Then customize it for your needs. You can download the task then import it. then set up the profile.

After you are done, go back to About - Tasker Wiki and read and download what you want. I have made a few profiles based on ones there.

Yes. This was the base of my task. I just built off of that to fit my likings. If you know tasker somewhat well you should be able to modify and add to it to make something tailored to you and your phone. Let me know if you need any help though djdoc1975.

Did you make the task manually or did you download the two files at the bottom of the wiki and import them into tasker? The text you have doesn't have a link to Google maps?

i made the task manually following the instructions on the wiki explicitly... have i done something wrong?

on second thoughts i'll try the downloads and import and see if that makes any difference

thanks anyway

<EDIT>

P.S I just realised i had not put the '%HTTPD' (remove comma's) in the text message body and thats why it was sending " i am here"

/DOH just call me homer in future.....lol

I used the2 downloads and it seems to work...
in my notification bar where it shows the running profile gps fix profile is running. Is the normal?

I manually made the location task and every time it sends the location it says the phone is at oral kare, when it is in my hands. Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, so I found out that you need to do a GPS fix to find where the phone is exactly, that is why the downloaded one works.

Okay, I having an issue that I hope you guys can help with. If it can;t be done with Tasker, maybe someone can suggest an app or widget.

This is my first week carrying my new Epic at work. A lot of the time at work, I cannot get a wifi or cell signal. I think that is killing my battery life.

I work in a hospital that has wifi in many spots, but not 100% coverage. I also get NO cell signal in my office (the server room), the basement, and many other areas.

On my old Palm Centro, I had an app that would turn off the radio when I wasn't getting a signal. It would then turn on the radio every once in a while, check for signal, and shut back off if there wasn't one.

Is there a way with Tasker or another app to accomplish that?

Make a new Profile > name it > State > Mobile network > 3G + Invert
"+" > Net > WiFi > On
(This will turn on WiFi when there is not a 3G connection. If you want to have it turn on 3G every now and then I can help you with that too.)
