"Tasker" is a BEAST! (in a good way)

Oh, wait, there's a separate button under Menu to "Show Context Selector"! And when you enable this, you get a menu of context icons accross the top, which I found annoying when I was toying with the Menu about a month ago, because I didn't realize this icon bar existed to sort and list existing contexts, not as shortcuts for creating new ones! The version you have would probably be smarter in my book.

Hey guys and gals.

I have two tasks running that clash.
One to turn my internet on when my screen is on.
The other is to keep the internet off when my battery gets below 30%.

Mt problem is, when my battery gets to the 30% mark the internet stays on as per request of the first task.
Iv tried to give priority of 1 to the Battery Level task, tried priority 10 too but still the same, any ideas?

You could try to add a second context to the first profile. That would be:
State > Battery Level, and use from 0 to 30 (or whatever values you want). Be sure to check the Invert box also.

If you just download JuiceDefender, it does this for you. Many other things if you are rooted with the paid app also.

Rob, Thanks a lot i think that has worked.

2010, The point in my buying Tasker was, i wont need to buy a lot of other programs =)

I'm not going to go into details, but thanks to this and a couple of other threads I have created a LOT of profiles, widgets, clickable notifications and tasks. To name a few:
Gestures for hanging up a call, speakerphone in call, vibrate mode;
Sound notifications for finding my phone, full battery;
Popups for new Gmail & text messages;
Emergency Lock down & Emergency override via recieved SMS;
Replaced Not Call Log, SetCPU, JuiceDefender, NoLock, SettingsProfiles, STFU, Total Screen Control, Selective Silence, Missed Call Remider, Missed Reminder, Email Notifier, SMS popup;
Popup menus when headphones plugged in and charging;
Widgets for Ringleader profiles and Movie Mode toggle;
and my phone says "Hello Nicole" and "Good night" in a sexy, if robotic, english accent when booting up and in Bedtime mode respectively.
LOVE THIS APP! <3 :D

Also, I've found that the order of the contexts makes a HUGE difference in how much battery is used, how accurate the tasks are when they fire and how often your profiles overlap each other.

I use Google Voice exclusively for texting; therefore, I am unable to use the sms trigger to send me a text telling me my phone's location.

So I set up a profile that looks for a Missed Call from my Google Voice number that:
enables GPS
starts finding the location,
pops up a message telling whoever is reading it that they have my phone and gives them my contact info (it is still finding the location while they are reading this),
and then it sends the location one of my e-mail addresses.

Getting it to send an e-mail was the hardest part since that isn't supported in Tasker without using scripts.

I am new to android and am waiting on my new Atrix.
I have a laundry list of things to do after I update, root, decrap and set up auto back ups to my ftp server.

One is to lean the power usage out buy keep things like wifi, BT and gps of unless I am using and app that needs that service.
I love what I read earlier about having BT off until a call comes in.

I want various states like having it turn gps on wifi off and start a mp3 when I jab it into my car cradle ( which I will make with mirco usb charger and 3.5 jack to fm transmitter)
and other states depnding on if it's face up or down.

A bed side state while just usb plugged in and while on it's plug down side horizal.
a schedule for turning on wiki syncing to my drop box. while phone on and messages off. ( I take call 24/7)

And I want to make an alarm that will start gradually turning up the screen brightniss 30 minutes prior to a voice alarm ( they have a british female voice I will load)

After she tells me to wake up and how well I am endowed she will read me the weather, Oil djia and au prices and maybe a drudge feed then proceed into telling me what my todo's are that day.

It should be here tomorrow with my defender otterbox and 32 gb sd.
I almost can't sleep thinking about it. I am like a darn kid or something.

I'd like to use the camera button as a pause button, but I can't seem to get Tasker to recognise it as being pressed. Has anyone managed to get it working?

Tasker is very powerful, but all the help pages are written for the older version - they've changed most of the names of things and the buttons so it took ages to work out what how to set it up.

Awesome thread!!
For those that asked how you can revert you media volume, ringer volume, screen brightness and such to before an event - I simply make variables for each and place the current values in them.

For example: I text "MAX DROID" to my droid, then I have %MEDIAVOL (made myself) take the value of my current media volume. The event will take place and my volume will be pushed to the max - a song will be played for 3min (a wait task of 3min). When it ends media will be stopped and my media vol will take on the old value stored in the %MEDIAVOL variable.

Hope that helped!

:eek:I have a question,

Say at 08:00 you want an app to open. So you set the context to 08:00 and then create a task to load the app. On that window there's a field called data.

- Have any of you ever used that field??

I was hoping you can automate the app by navigating itself. Is it possible to maybe check out the code of an app and apply its 'coded actions' in the field?

Hi
I was hoping I could get some help with tasker. Basically I need my display to turn off as soon as I start driving. What would be the best solution for this. Help is very much appreciated

From what I have read in this forum and other discussions Tasker intrigued me. Setting up is a bit challenging but I normally pick up things fairly fast. But is not my issue. I am running OS 2.3.6 on AT&T Galaxy S2 and I am not able to manipulate some features like GPS. This is probably a dumb question but here it goes: Is there another app that could be a substitute for the Tasker?

Hi my phone is a samsung rather than the HTC but I hope is ok to ask this here.

Someone asked if he could put airplane mode on and turn off every 15 minutes for 2 mins, I want to do the same, but his question wasnt answered, can anyone tell me how? thanks.

I tried to do what was said to him but alter for airplane mode but doesnt work. As I assume the battery life page would show loss of signal for airplane mode.

Can someone please help me? I've set an access PIN / screen lock for obvious reasons but I don't want to be entering it all the time at home. So I've set a profile 'home'' activated when connected to my home wi fi. I've added the only task that seems to fit the bill which is Display/ Keyguard then set to off.

The profile activation is confirmed in the notifications but it doesn't work, I still have to enter the PIN when the profile is active.

Please help, I'm new to Android and this is the first thing I've tried with Tasker.

Thanks

On some phone models the keyguard lock and unlock doesn't work. The best way around it is to use a 3rd party widget that is controllable by Tasker to control the keyguard. What I had done in the past was use one like Widgetsoid, free in the store. You would call the app through Tasker and tell it to turn off the keyguard.

What you need is a plugin for Tasker called Secure Settings. It can turn the pin on and off as well as many other things. You do need to be rooted for it, though.

Thanks guys that seems to have worked a treat!

Ah, well I thought it worked OK. It cancels the pin lock when at home, but of course I want it reactivated when I leave home. I'm now at work and no profile's selected (which is odd as it should select one based on my work wi fi) and still I don't have to enter the PIN...

Any ideas? Does a profile's setting remain active until another is chosen?

Yes. You need to turn it back on with either an exit task or set it per profile.

Is it possible to perform simple check for directory/file existence in Tasker?

If it's possible to perform such a check please share how.
Basically what I try to achieve is:

1. Check for existence of file or directory.
2. If it does not exist create it.
