"Tasker" is a BEAST! (in a good way)

I've used Locale before and I felt it killed my battery and did away with it. If no one is seeing a hit to the battery I may buy this w/o even bothering with the trial.

HOWEVER, the one person who mentioned during BETA testing he saw awake time equal uptime has me worried! If it keeps my phone in an awake state 24/7 there will definitely be a hit to the battery. Can others comments?!?!?

I always have Tasker running. Today's stats:

Up time: 11:29:17
Awake time: 2:51:00

YMMV, but for me: :D

^^Probably through a Headset Plugged context
You could also do some other things like "Bluetooth Connected" or "Landscape Orientation" plus "Charging."

Me? I created a "Car Mode" Task that first toggles Keyguard. Then:

Screen Brightness Max If %KEYG = off
Auto Brightness Off if %KEYG = off
Speakerphone On if %KEYG = off
Popup "Car Mode On!" if %KEYG = off

Auto Brightness On if %KEYG = on
Speakerphone Off if %KEYG = on
Popup "Car Mode Off!" if %KEYG = on

Then, create a widget for the Car Mode task. One-touch Car Mode. Works fine for me.

if any one has created a gps rule, please let me know what i am missing...

i created a task widget that does the following:
1) starts gps
2) opens navigation app
3) sets all volume options to max

what i cant find is a way to revert all this once i exit out of the navigation....
I know i can create a separate rule that when navigation closes, gps would shout off.
but it has to be an easier(smarter) way to do this.

any ideas? and yes i read the devs site with all the q&a and wikis and examples :)

Lifehacker has a nice writeup, but doesnt accomplish what i am trying to do...
I think your best bet would be to create a new Application context for Navigation that turns GPS on and sets volume to max. I'm fairly certain that when you close Navigation (really close it, don't just hit the home screen), those settings will revert to the pre-Nav state.

I also forgot to ask if anyone has figured out a way to do an automatic, and more importantly random (or apparently random) wallpaper changing task. Ideally it would randomly select a wallpaper from a given folder on a set interval. I see that it can specifically change the wallpaper, but wondering about a randomness option.
Pent (the dev) has promised me some more capabilities around wallpaper in the future. For now, it's only an action (Set Wallpaper) and you need to supply a filename. I don't think you can really randomize this. You could have Tasker change your wallpaper to something different every day, for example, but you'd need to specify the individual wallpapers to use.

For the location based tasks, is there a way to apply the same set of settings to multiple locations without having to create a new task for each location.

Example- I have a location task for my office that sets all of my volumes to zero and turns on vibration. I would like to apply these same rules to the local movie theaters that I go to.

If I can do this all in one task, that would be awesome, otherwise I can just create multiples.

Thanks for all the great help so far.
What you'd want to do is create a "STFU!" Task that silences all your volumes and turns on vibration. It's gotta be a named task. Once you've done that, use your Office and Movie profiles to call that task on Enter. That way, you only have the one named task that can be invoked from any profile. I'm doing that with a "Reset Wallpaper" task that, on Profile exit, undoes any of my Set Wallpaper actions taken on Profile Enter.

Can any of you Tasker users out there tell me if this is possible?

The most common, tedious thing I do on the phone is when I get in my car I 1) turn blue tooth on 2) go to blue tooth settings and tell it to connect to my blue tooth receiver (i have to do this manually for some reason) 3) after connecting I go to my music app

How can tasker know if I'm in my car and can it turn blue tooth on and try to connect to a particular device I specify?

thanks

I've been playing around with variations of this and I can't get them to work... first I tried what you suggested, but Tasker did not revert the settings once I exited Navigation. Then I tried setting up a new Application context for Navigation and just adding an Exit task for "GPS Off," but the Exit task never executed. Seems like it's best to stick to State contexts when you want to toggle something on/off like this.

Can anyone tell me if this app can do traditional macros? Like recording a series of icon and button presses to repeat them with one shortcut?

for an app to do all of that I'm thinking it should be running all the time, doesn't it prevent the phone from sleeping? If yes, doesn't it kill the bat faster?

Played with it a bit tonight, and it seems very cool. It is a bit complex to learn, but the real deal breaker for me is that it is unable to automatically switch scenes for me (at least as far as I can find.) I have different scenes depending on where I am, and if I need to take out the phone to switch the scene, I can take the few seconds to manually change the volume settings and such.

I was also wondering about this. It would be nice to set up the phone so that when I get to work, not only does it change the settings like I want (Airplane mode, ringer at X, etc), but changes my scene too so the apps I need at work are available and ready to go.

Is there any way to turn off mobile web with tasker?

I want to set it up to turn off GPS, turn off WiFi, turn off Sounds, turn off mobile web when placed face down on a table

Is it possible to make Tasker turn off the phone when the battery is full? This way, the phone would automatically bump charge itself so you don't have to be near the phone when it's done charging to turn it off.

Love this app but I'm still learning.

How can I set a profile to turn the in call volume down for a certain person? Will it go back to normal (full volume) after I hang up with that person?

Also how can I set a profile to turn off vibration for notifications while in a call?

Haven't observed any battery problems. In fact, I've set things up in a way that definitely extends my battery life!

Incoming call is a state, so the volume setting should automatically revert when the call is done. Haven't tried that one, however.

LOL - I asked this one of the developer. No-go.

The developer isn't prioritizing anything that's manufacturer or carrier specific like Scenes, so I wouldn't hold my breath on that one!

Tasker can do that :)

Rob

I see I need to download APNDroid to do that, but I'm not familiar with APNDroid. Any help?

Essentially, I want to make it so my phone pretty much shuts down all features when placed face down on a flat surface, except it'll vibrate when I get an incoming call or SMS.

If the LEDs next to the camera lens could blink instead of the phone vibrating, that would be even better.
